Fahrenheit 9/11' Making GOP Nervous
Associated Press ^ | Jul 22, 2:09 AM (ET) | MIKE GLOVER

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Republicans initially dismissed "Fahrenheit 9/11" as a cinematic screed that would play mostly to inveterate Bush bashers. Four weeks and $94 million later, the film is still pulling in moviegoers at 2,000 theaters around the country, making Republicans nervous as it settles into the American mainstream.

"I'm not sure if it moves voters," GOP consultant Scott Reed said, "but if it moves 3 or 4 percent it's been a success."

Two senior Republicans closely tied to the White House said the movie from director Michael Moore is seen as a political headache because it has reached beyond the Democratic base. Independents and GOP-leaning voters are likely to be found sitting beside those set to revel in its depiction of a clueless president with questionable ties to the oil industry.

"If you are a naive, uncommitted voter and wander into a theater, you aren't going to come away with a good impression of the president," Republican operative Joe Gaylord said. "It's a problem only if a lot of people see it."

Based on a record-breaking gross of $94 million through last weekend, theaters already have sold an estimated 12 million tickets to "Fahrenheit 9/11." A Gallup survey conducted July 8-11 said 8 percent of American adults had seen the film at that time, but that 18 percent still planned to see it at a theater and another 30 percent plan to see it on video.

At the end of this article, it says the film will go on sale before election day. How soon can conservatives make their own DVD debunking F911? We could distribute it a week before Moore launches (to steal a bit of his thunder)... I think it would be an interesting counter-tactic to the propaganda genre.

Oh yeah, we're nervous that anyone would believe that tripe.
We thought we left the dumb one in the various countries we came from.

That's funny.
I feel perfectly fine.
BTW, did you know that Moore's last "documentary" Bowling For Columbine can be found in the Circuit City "bargain bin" for $5.99 now?

[not that I'm implying any "value judgements", mind you"....:)

Well, everybody has to sign up one day, I suppose.

Frankly, I don't see why the GOP should feel threatened by Fahrenheit 9/11. I've seen the movie last week-end in Western France, and it's so heavy-handed you must already be an anti-Bush zealot to find food for thought in this flick. Man, Moore just stops short of criticizing President Bush's ties ! If that is what passes for clever political analysis, the Democrats have some problems facing them...

They interviewed some French congressmen who went to the premiere in Paris, and one of them, Pierre Lellouche, said this was pure propaganda and distorted facts. Filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard even compared Moore to Goebbels, and said Moore was very wrong to try to portray President Bush as an idiot. That struck me, because Godard is usually seen as a leftist.

John Kerry: Schroedinger's candidate

So if you put Kerry in a box and bombarded him with radiation
he wouldn't be alive or dead until you opened the box and looked,
he would exist merely as a field of possibilities?

I'm rusty, school was a long time ago.

I assure you I am not a troll. I just found the article and the fact that this fat a!@ bastard has pulled in a 90 Million disturbing to say the least. I hope the article is just propaganda, but an awful lot of young impressionable people are seeing, and being influenced by this steaming pile of excrement. I am hoping for the best.

Later,

Welcome to FR - if you were a troll you wouldn't have replied to any of us. (At least trolls seldom hang out on the threads they post.) Please excuse the lack of acceptance initially - it's just that this political season has seen the number of disruptors increase dramatically.

The fact that you reply on the thread speaks well to the "non-troll" factor.

Oh, for chrissakes, it's an AP article. If he'd written the two little words "barf alert" in the title, you wouldn't be accusing him of trolling.

Thin-skinned morons.

Troll-Lite Alert.

There's been a pattern of this in the past 3 days. New posters throwing out a bone of liberal tripe then qualify their conservatism by stating something like: "hey, i'm a conservative, I hate the liberals".

In this case: " fat a!@ bastard has pulled in a 90 Million disturbing to say the least. I hope the article is just propaganda, but an awful lot of young impressionable people are seeing, and being influenced by this steaming pile of excrement."

Its a new tactic for them to get the articles they want posted on the board without being zotted.

Sort of.
His positions on the issues currently exist as "merely as a field of possibilities".....;)

It's more of a political "is he/isn't he/flip flop" joke that apparently flops all on its own...:)

I understand. I just found your little forum, and I am quite impressed. I used to hang out at Rightnation.us, but "moderates" have taken over the boards. I just don't feel comfortable there anymore. I should have posted a comment with the article. I can see how it would put some people off. I just found it disturbing and thought that many on the board would find it equally disturbing. It is just so frustrating that such audacious slander is being permitted.

So what?!? It's a real AP article. He didn't make this thing up.

Do you only want to see happy news? Is that your deal? Me, I'd like to know what the AP is putting out there, even if it makes me cranky. If my fellow conservatives won't tell me, I'll gladly take the news from someone else.

The only reason this movie will be significant is that the American people are too stupid and uninformed to realize that it is 90% fiction. And probably 5% of the voters in November will be influenced by it. That number of votes can make a difference.

Sickening.

How did you find Free Republic? What led you to post that particular article first without commenting on any other article?

You are expecting us to believe you came across the article and then stumbled across FR and decided to post it? Or did you find FR and then stumble across the article yet weren't moved to remark on any of the other threads here.
