Good for Slim Fast and their swift response to this debacle. I bet there is some IRON CLAD clause in the contract about "no controversy" or somesuch. You slim fast using rightwingers certainly got action on this, and for that I applaud each and every one of you!

Here's the reply I got from Unilever, the corporate parent of Slim Fast:

Thank you for contacting us recently about our use of Whoopi Goldberg, specifically regarding her remarks made at the recent fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall. The manner in which Ms. Goldberg chose to express her personal beliefs at this event do not reflect the views and values of Slim·Fast.

Slim·Fast selected Whoopi Goldberg as its spokesperson because of her commitment to losing weight, which we applaud.

We are disappointed by the manner in which Ms. Goldberg chose to express herself and sincerely regret that her recent remarks offended you. Advertisements featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on air.

We appreciate you sharing your views with us and we hope you will continue to use Slim·Fast as your partner in healthy weight management.

Kind Regards,

Andrew Gray

I got this same email about ten minutes ago. I guess this example of "free expression" from Slim-Fast is basically a form letter. It must have caused them and their ilk much pain. Good.

My reply came from Kathi Eckler Consumer Services Manager.

Same thing, just sent by a different person.
I received mine on July 16th.
Good to see contacting them worked so quickly.

Slim Fast selected Whoopi Goldberg as its spokesperson because of her commitment to losing weight, which we applaud.

On a related note, the A.H.A. has applauded Michael Moore for his commitment to rendering an accurate version of President Bush's first term in office.

Also, the National Association Of District Attorneys is giving Ron Kuby their "Lifetime Achievement Award", for his devotion to public safety.

Long time overdue to "WHUP UP ON Goldbricking Goldberg!" She needs to be permanently enrolled in the Bill Cosby Charm School!

Whoopie is wrong to claim she was censored. Nobody violated her 1st Ammendment rights. The government did not prevent her political speech.

A company for whom she worked decided that public reaction to her opinion hurt their business, so they severed the relationship.

The left winger wacko liberals want a pass on the consequences of their actions. They don't understand the basic princples and freedoms of our Republic. If she were as "brave" as she postures to be, she shoulder the results OF HER ACTIONS without complaint.

The Republicans didn't get her fired, the conservatives didn't get her fired, the GOP didn't get her fired. It was the public's opinion of her character that got her fired and she has no one to blame but Whoopie.

Unilever is a European company and their opinion on Whoopie obviously differs from Kerry, which makes Kerry out of step with the "World Community" he so dearly courts.

Oh the shame, the shame.....we'll be hated throughout the world because Kerry won't join the European Community (i.e., Unilever) in condeming Whoopie. Kerry must condem Whoopie if we are ever to hope to be readmitted to the "Global Community".
