Excessive. They can be annoying, like the one outside yesterday that went on beeping for an eternity during lunch. But I suspect they can be redesigned against that -- run for a few minutes and shut off, or some other change.

There are two ways to look at this.

1. Vehicle theft prevention via high pitched alarm doesn't even turn heads anymore in NYC.

2. Bloomers must have bought stock in OnStar.

I tell you I have never seen a more totalitarian government in this city than I have under Bloomberg. It is amazing. There is absolutely no democratic process in this city whatsoever. It is like living in Nazi Germany. And they wonder why the economy is tanking and there is net emigration.

in L.A. police are reducing response to home burglar alarms - they don't have time from the "grin and wave" new rules of the Federal Consent Degree. Today an alien murderer was released from a California prison after 20 years but NOT deported in interest of justice ...

maybe they should have loud, wet coughing car alarms or maybe alarms that yell at people to quit smoking or alarms that hum songs because they don't know the words or something, er whatever

A car alarm triggered in the middle of the night in my Manhattan neighborhood can easily waken thousands of people. This can be a serious quality of life issue.

There are many many ways to secure a vehicle without annoying lots of folks.

Those opposing this idea should imagine how they would feel if they were awakened every other night, at 3 am, for no reason.

Being as it may, why the heck does the government think it can outlaw car alarms? There's nothing inherently ILLEGAL about them.
