A car alarm triggered in the middle of the night in my Manhattan neighborhood can easily waken thousands of people. This can be a serious quality of life issue.

There are many many ways to secure a vehicle without annoying lots of folks.

Those opposing this idea should imagine how they would feel if they were awakened every other night, at 3 am, for no reason.

My neighbor has beagles under my bedroom window. They are bred to bark. As much as the folks around here seem to despise any type of restriction to their individual freedoms (including me), when I move it will definitely be to a place with very strict noise ordinances. Someone else's noise in my house is trespassing IMHO. Their FREEDOM to have car alarms and dogs is in direct opposition to my FREEDOM from UNNECESSARY noise on my own PRIVATE property.
