But I think I'm more suited to FL or TX.

C'mon to Texas! First, we're closer to where you are now. Second, there are too many anti-gun, nanny-state-loving New Yorkers retired in Florida - heck, look at what they almost did in 2000.

Texas, OTOH, is full of friendly folks. Rumor has it that there's plenty of space here. :>) (As an aside, when I entered Texas from Louisiana on I-10, I saw a sign that said "Exit 878, 1 mile." I was perplexed by the sign and the numbering system that seemed to be "fouled" up - until 3 miles later, that is. That's when I learned that El Paso was 875 miles away!!).

Oh, and we Texans LOOOOVVVVEEEE our guns - its been estimated that there are 2 for every adult in the state - which would equate to about 30 million. Yes, I know, we still have some work to do, but give us a few years and I'm sure we can double that. I'm doing my best to raise the average! Ain't no gun-grabbin' gonna happen here.

"Well not all ammo. Just centerfire rifle ammo. Your shotgun and pistol ammo would be safe. ... From that bill"

anyway. Well not if you own a Thompson Contender set up for 30-30. -Has anyone here actualy shot that configuration?

Maybe some day I'll get an RV and be a land nomad. Who knows. But I think I'm more suited to FL or TX.

Many of my neighbors have Ford F250 trucks and moderate size "5th" wheel trailers. Many of them head north to the Island Park area (lots of lodgepole pines) on a Friday night and return late Sunday night. It's not very different from the southern Cal folks running out to the desert with trailers, trail bikes, dune buggies, etc on a Friday. The water rats pull their boats to the big reservoirs to fish and ski. Some cart jet skis. The mountain bikers are out as soon as the ice clears enough to ride safely.

In the winter, the big trailers are swapped out for smaller ones to carry 2 to 5 snowmobiles. The ski racks get a workout as well.

The value of dragging a trailer around is that you can relocate when the surroundings cease to meet your needs. I haven't been bitten by the trailer bug. A day trip to Yellowstone or the Tetons is fine. I can grab a hotel room if I want to stay overnight. I'll be room temperature before the cumulative cost of the hotel rooms equals the purchase price of a trailer and truck big enough to haul it.

I agree totally. I am in Arizona carrying a 9mm, 32 auto, and a 10-22 ruger with 30 & 50 rd clips. I do have a Florida CCW which makes most legal.

I hear you can find warm salt water, and passable Mexican and seafood too in parts of TEjas.

And I'm already maintaining a humongous hole in the water welded to a pier as it is.

My dad was in the Navy. He had a few favorites quips about boats:

There are two happy days the life of a boat owner
The day he buys it.
The day he sells it.

A boat is a hole in the water into which good money is poured.

After spending 2 1/2 years as a field service engineer at Marine Electric Company in San Diego, I could attest to his wise advice. I am not and never shall be a boat owner.

Likewise, the wise counsel of Dave Ramsey is to never buy a mobile home or trailer. It loses about 90% of its value in 5 years...well before most people can even pay for it.

What bullet isn't centerfire ?

A bullet isn't centerfire. A cartridge can be centerfire or rimfire. The bullet is the projectile that goes down the barrel. A cartridge is the combination of bullet, casing, propellent powder and a priming device. A centerfire cartridge has a primer in the center of the case head.

Boxer style centerfire primer

Berdan style primer
A centerfire cartridge e.g. 9mm or .308

A rimfire cartridge e.g. .22LR. The primer is in the rim of the cartridge.

Most handguns and hunting rifles use a centerfire cartridge. The illustrated centerfire primer is the "Boxer" style. It can be reloaded by poking out the expended primer and replacing it. The other style of primer is "Berdan". The Berdan primer has an "anvil" in the center of the primer and "flash holes" around the edge. Poking out an expended Berdan primer is moderately difficult. In general, you won't find Berdan primers for sale for the purpose of reloading an expended cartridge.

Where are the limits typically published? Such limits should be considered unconstitutional, in any case. Anyone know about the People's Republic of Kalifornia?

Hmm ... they would not be stupid enough to try and confiscate that much ammo.

Wanna bet, they are pretty stupid. Besides if they just ban sale to the public, eventually the existing stocks will be depleted... although in my case it would take quite awhile at current usage rates. I'd try to use what I had where it would do the most good.
