Police Search For Missing 11-Year-Old Florida Girl By First Coast News Staff SARASOTA COUNTY, FL -- There is an Amber Alert in Florida for a missing 11-year old. Carlie Brucia is five feet tall and weighs 120 pounds. She was last seen on Sunday wearing a short-sleeved red shirt and blue jeans. Brucia has blond hair and blue eyes. Police believe she was taking a short cut home on Sunday, and while walking behind a car wash in Sarasota, a man approached her and grabbed her. Investigators are looking at surveillance video from behind the car wash. It does show a man approaching the girl and police say she does not appear to know him. The suspect is a white man, about 5'10" and 200 pounds. He is believed to be in his 20s or 30s. He was wearing mechanics clothing. Anybody got a picture of the perp? They were showing a tape of the abduction on TV this morning and it looked like they had a fairly good shot of his face. A still frame might be helpful... but they didn't show one.

Florida Girl's Abduction Caught On Tape

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Police say the kidnapping of a Florida girl was apparently caught on tape.


The Sarasota County Sheriff's office says a surveillance camera behind a car wash caught sixth-grader Carlie Brucia being led away Sunday evening by a white male in his late 20s or early 30s.

She was walking home from a friend's house, an abduction caught by an automatic camera.

Sgt. Paul Richard said the business was closed, and Carlie was walking past as a short cut home.

Officers began searching for the 11-year-old Sunday evening -- but didn't receive the video camera's record until Monday afternoon.

The video caught the man walking up to the girl, talking to her for a few seconds, then grabbing her forearm and leading her away. Police say she didn't seem to know the man.


Richard says Carlie didn't seem to know the man, who was wearing what appeared to be a mechanic's shirt with a name patch.

Carlie, who is about 5 feet tall and 120 pounds, has blond hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a red top and blue jeans, and carrying a pink backpack.

Her mother said, "She's loving. She's caring. She's silly. She's sweet. And she needs to come home."

Incidentally, after Christa Rogliner (who disappeared from Leesburg, VA on Dec. 12) was "returned" after she appeared on AMW. Incredibly the brief article in my newspaper failed to report the details but left the impression she had been kept by someone.

It broke our hearts to see this on the news this morning. My daughter is 11. Her father and I took the opportunity to call her to the television and watch the report. We talked about how quietly the girl seems to go with the man. Kids are programmed to obey adults. We asked her what she would do. She said fight. Her dad even rehearsed a battle, telling her she wasn't fighting enough or being loud enough. Tonight we will review our safe list. People who she can trust should an emergency arise.

But you never know. We thought we had taught her fire safety. One night our fire alarm went off. The vent had come off the dryer. There was no fire; the heat had set it off. Hubby and I were messing with the alarm and the dryer. My daughter was upstairs in her room, scared to death, and hiding. She thought the house was on fire and didn't do anything we had taught her.

Prayers for that poor girl and her family. Prayers for all our children.

Not looking to get flamed but it was 6:20 pm and she's eleven years old. Further, it's not daylight at that time. It's kind of dusky at best. Was she near the home or hanging out by the car wash? How dare I ask such questions? A crime has occurred and this is a crime thread.

I wonder how they came up with a height and weight of 5'10" and 200 lbs. Looking at this picture and knowing she is only five foot tall he doesn't look like he's 10 inches taller than her. It looks to me that he's no more than 5'6". I hope they find her soon.

I saw the tape this morning as well and wanted to jump through the television to clobber the guy.You could tell she didn't want to go with him but he looked like he acted in a very authoritative way with her. It is unimagineable what the parents must be going through.
