[history]
February 3, 2004 -- THE demise of Howard Dean's candidacy opens the door to a Kerry/Clinton ticket in 2004. As long as Dean was favored to get the nomination, Hillary likely wasn't interested in the second slot on the ticket. With the Vermont governor almost certain to go down to a massive defeat, Hillary probably wanted no part in the ensuing carnage. But now that the Democrats have a real chance to win, it makes all kinds of sense to offer her the nomination and for her to accept it.

Another Hillary on Our Hands? Posted Feb. 2, 2004 Published: Tuesday, February 17, 2004
Sen. John Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz, takes a major interest in feminism, health care and global environmentalism, and she isn't shy when it comes to the public spotlight. Sound familiar?
In a column for Accuracy in Media, Cliff Kincaid writes that the questions should go beyond whether her husband will be a good president to whether Heinz would copy Hillary Clinton by playing the role of copresident in a Kerry administration. For the rest of his column, read "Is Teresa Heinz Another Hillary?"

I would be shocked if she took the VP nomination. I can not imgine Clinton and Kerry getting along if they won.

I would be shocked if she took the VP nomination. I can not imgine Clinton and Kerry getting along if they won. They wouldn't have to, any more than Kennedy and Johnson got along - they just have to decide that it's in their mutual interest.
That said, I can't imagine that Kerry would pick Hillary as VP - nothing is more certain to unite the Republicans than a Clinton aiming at the White House, even if they have doubts about President Bush. Also, with two northeastern leftists on the ticket, a Kerry/Clinton candidacy could write off the South and much of the Southwest and Midwest. If forced to pick from the Seven Dwarves a Kerry/Edwards ticket seems more likely, but my gut says that, should Lurch indeed get the nomination, he'll pick a conservative Southern or Southwestern Democrat as Veep to help him in those regions.

Morris writes, "Remember that of the past 18 major-party presidential nominees, eight have run first for vice president (Truman, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Mondale, Bush, Dole and Gore)."
Only 2 of those 8 were legitimately successful in achieving the Presidency on his own merits, Nixon and Bush. Truman and Johnson came to win their own administrations on the back of their reasonably successful management of the remainder of the term of the very popular Presidents they succeeded in death. Ford was not even elected to VP, much less the Presidency by the Electoral College. Mondale was a catastrophic failure and that Dole broke 100 EC votes is more out of hatred for Clinton than any real issue. As for Gore, well, he is how I found out about this website and why I joined years ago.

Kerry better ask for extra Secret Service protection if Hillary is his Veep.

Dickie the toe sucker has an abysmal track record, vis-a-vis prognostication.
Nixon lost, when he ran for president, right after being V.P. and it took him YEARS and YEARS to make it back.
LBJ took over, after JFK was assassinated and look what happened after that.
Truman...see LBJ.
Ford ? Need I say any more ?
Gore ? Lost and is now solidly in oblivion.
It is far more intelligent, not to mention politically savvy, for Hillary to hope and pray that President Bush is reelected in '04, than to play V.P. for EIGHT years under a Kerry presidency, or be his V.P. when he loses in four years to a Republican, than to wait four years, when the GOP will be having a knock down, drag out open primary.

Hillary wouldn't need to wait years. Here timeline would be 2 years and a day from inauguration.

The voters she'd alienate? Already voting for Bush. And much as they might like to, they can't vote against Hillary more than once (one hopes). I'd like to see a freeper poll on this. I know there are some people on this board unhappy with Bush who are threatening to stay home Election Day or vote third-party. But I can't imagine a single one of them not voting for W if Hillary was on the Dems' ticket. Talk about electrifying the base! Bring it on.
To: kattracks
If Hitlery is on the ticket I'm quitting my job and working full time for the re-election of the president.

Hillie won't run on a ticket. Her negs are too high. But I could see her sockpuppet, if elected, picking her as his new veep after the one already on the ticket conveniently resigns.
Note to disgusted Dems: If you don't want any chance of a Toon in the White House, vote Pubbie.
