I agree. There is only ONE Almighty. It is the interpretation of that one Almighty that differs. President Bush gave the exact correct answer.

Very simple - read Old/New Testament and read Koran. Then you will know.

How so? The Muslims say they worship the one true God and so do Christians. How many one true gods could there possibly be? Seriously, it is hard to divine a difference.

Like it or not, the god of Islam and the God of Christianity are NOT one.

Well, for us non-believers, how are we supposed to tell the difference?...From the non-believer's perspective it all looks about the same frankly.

Good question. It's not difficult to tell the difference but it does take some effort. The most respectful way to compare the two is to do what I did, which is to read the scriptures of the two religions (you should be able to borrow a copy of the Koran from a public library). It won't take you more than a couple of hours to see many fundamental differences.

These people are bent on our destruction and the destruction of the Jews.

And he is fighting them. He just chose not to give the media more ammunition to use against him in the fight. Turning this into a new "crusade" would be idiotic. Unless, you think that we should paint crosses on our tanks... and go forth to battle purely in Jesus' name.

I don't know if President Bush really believes in what He said. He is a born-again Christian, and if he had a reasonable degree of Biblical knowledge, he would recognize the incorrect nature of his statement. However, many, if not most, Christians supplement their religious beliefs with elements of folk religion. This syncretic view of God has been a part of American civil life for a long time, like it or not. It may have originated in Freemasonry or in liberal Protestantism, but has spread beyond those confines.

Until God himself tells me otherwise they do not worship the same god. The Korans message does not match the Bible. The Bible has held it's own for far longer and does not contain the numerous contradictions found in the Koran.

How can one of the most illiterate populations in the world recognize abstract concepts and properly interpet the Koran? I submit they can't and rely on their "Imams" to deliver the message, talk about false prophets.

Please, read the Koran. I did. It's tough, a real bore, but the more you read, the worse it gets.

Notice the difference between the attitudes of the early writings, when Mohammed was young and had only one wife (she was rich and he was dependent on her). He was the peaceful Mohammed, the "Mecca" Mohammed.

As soon as he was a rich widower, a man with an army, he started killing. The "Medina" Mohammed. I wonder if all those wives made him really cranky.

And it is also a tenent of Islam that the later scriptures are more valid than the earlier ones.

Of course they worship the same God -- the God of Abraham. The Muslims just happen to do it in an abominable way.

"I see people who talk about religion constantly quarrelling with one another. Hindus, Mussalmans, Brahmos, Shaktas, Vaishnavas, Shaivas, all quarrel with one another. They haven't the intelligence to understand that He who is called Krishna is also Shiva and the Primal Shakti, and that it is He, again, who is called Jesus and Allah…. Truth is one; only It is called by different names. All people are seeking the same Truth; the variance is due to climate, temperament, and name." -- Sri Ramakrishna

It won't take you more than a couple of hours to see many fundamental differences.

Again, how so? Neither Koran nor Bible demonstrate the existence of any God in my opinion. So which one do I go with and why?

The Muslims say they worship the one true God and so do Christians.

From the fact that different people make similar claims it does not follow that they are both right. READ the New/Old Testament and Koran, then draw you conclusions. Hearing the claims is not enough.

Please, read the Koran.

Why? Does it do a better job than the Bible at demonstrating the existence of a deity? If it does, what I am supposed to make of that? What happens if I read the Koran, wind up believing in Allah and not in the Christian God? I never found the Bible convincing, even as a small child.

Unless, you think that we should paint crosses on our tanks... and go forth to battle purely in Jesus' name.

Interestingly, that's exactly what the apostles thought Jesus was going to do.

No, the reporter was looking to play "gotcha" and stir up trouble, either between Christians (as is evident here) or between Christians and Muslims, which is what would have happened if the question had been answered the other way.

And everybody knows it's okay to tell a little 'white' lie instead of speak truth isn't it? I'm sure I read that somewhere in the New Testament.

I am saying we confront their religious beliefs as they are.

So, it is the President's job to tell American Muslims that their beliefs are wrong? It is the President's job to decide the theology of the country?

Ok, but A. Pole, why should I believe either one of these documents over the other?

Just becuase we both use the Old Testament as a reference does not mean that our god is the same. They believe in a distorion of what we hold to be true. They believe in a false god. Their belief is so contrary to ours that they have distorted the Christian God to the point thet it is no longer the Christian God. Muhammad would be a false messiah in one sense. They have hijacked a religion and a a true God. Historically, it is the same entity that they worship. That is it. From there they have created a false religion and a god that does not exist.

Here are your words with a couple of changes, and viewed from a Judaic perspective.....

Just because we both use the Old Testament as a reference does not mean that our G-d is the same. They believe in a distorion of what we hold to be true. They believe in a false god. Their belief is so contrary to ours that they have distorted the Judaic G-d to the point that it is no longer the Judaic G-d. Yehoshua would be a false messiah in one sense. They have hijacked a religion and a true G-d. Historically, it is the same entity that they worship. That is it. From there they have created a false religion and a god that does not exist.

Pick a recipe you like and follow it. Read the shopping list of things required, and go out and buy them, and do what it directs. Then later you can throw away the list if you want to as you enjoy the nourishment.
