Joe Biden’s boom and bust online campaign
The Politico ^ | August 18, 2019 | Maggie Severns and Allan James Vestal

Biden’s online fundraising has tailed off, suggesting problems generating grassroots enthusiasm, a POLITICO review of millions of donations shows.

Joe Biden raised $4.6 million online on his first day in the 2020 presidential race, surprising doubters who thought the former vice president couldn’t run a modern campaign. But since then Biden’s online fundraising has tumbled — looking more like flash-in-the-pan opponent Beto O’Rourke than top-tier rivals like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.

More than 60 percent of the $13.2 million Biden has raised online came in the first week of his campaign, which launched in late April, according to a POLITICO analysis of data from the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue. While other top candidates spiked early and then gradually raised more money online as the 2020 campaign has carried on, Biden’s pattern is similar to O’Rourke, who roared into the race with millions raised in his first day but has trickled off since then, watching his standing in the polls erode as the people who flocked to his 2018 Texas Senate campaign stop mashing the “donate” button with every email.

Rush made a good point today. Trump is beating the top Dems in Washington in number of contributors plus money. Folks WA is not a den of deplorables. The eastern half leans right but not the coast. Maybe the Seattle folks are getting tired of walking in homeless freeloaders sh1t.

I believe it’s Bernie Sanders. Butt-edge-edge has done surprisingly well too.

Haha, right? I guess that's as top tier as they can get.

He's being Bob Dole'd, or John McCain'd, or John Kerry'd (or even, Mitt Romney'd) -- there is no candidate who can defeat President Trump, and 76 year old Biden is the only candidate who can appear to be MOR. In addition, he gets his shot at age 76 or 77, then will be out of the way for good.

derp

You use that term a lot. Is it your own invention, or is it cult-speak?

Care to define it for us non cultists?

I most definitely didn't invent derp. It's a thing that has been used since time immemorial to denote how slow people talk, ie. 'herp derp'. Sort of a version of 'duh'.

What I did invent is to use it as an alternative for 'deep state. I inserted 'derp' to make it 'derp state'.

It's intended to be an insult to the deep state. I have expanded it's usage to include all followers, denizens, indoctrinated sheep, democrats, liberals, and any other manifestation of the 'derp state'.

It's basically an insulting shorthand term to use. I thought people of our persuasion could use a single, all encompassing term to describe the enemy. My fingers got tired typing out and differentiating all the manifestations of derpitude.

So I invented 'derp'. And I'm making it happen. And it is.

You are welcome to use it, despite how you feel about its originator. I find it useful.

Interesting.

In what part of the country is/was that a commonly used word? I'm from the west coast, and have never heard or seen it anywhere, except in your posts.

Biden will be gone sooner or later. Lieawatha Warren, the other white meat, will move up the food chain.

I've lived in California all my life, and it is of the common tongue.

I can't imagine how you missed 'derp' in its common usage.
