Actress Kirstie Alley said Thursday that she admires GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump for shaking up the political debate.
"Donald Trump, whether you like him or you don't like him, is waking this country up," she told FoxBusiness.com.
"If you hate him, you're going to talk about how much you hate him," Alley continued. "If you love him, you're going to talk about how much you love him.
"I want someone who will rev us up and make us pay attention. I think that's a really great step for this country because this country's gotten very complacent."
Alley said her praise of Trump does not constitute a formal endorsement.
"I vote by the person, who I think is going to be best," said Alley, who described herself as politically unaffiliated.
"I'm still observing. I really like the candidates from both sides. I like this about one person -- I like that about another person."
The former "Cheers" star predicted that 2016 is one for the political record books regardless of who becomes America's next president.
"I think that this year is going to be a very unique years in politics," Alley said.
Trump has defied expectations from political pundits by holding the lead in the GOP presidential primary since entering the race in June.
He will face off against his rivals in Thursday night's sixth Republican presidential debate in North Charleston, S.C. The contest is crucial given that Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses are less than a month away, taking place on Feb. 1.
Trump leads the field in Iowa by less than 1 percentage point, over Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of samplings. He enjoys a more comfortable advantage nationwide, with 16 percent separating him from Cruz.

That would be a very powerful interest group to have on your side. I don’t follow there beliefs, but electorally speaking,
they would be highly influential with the Hollywood folks.
