There Goes the Electability Argument!
Washington Monthly's Political Animal ^ | August 19, 2015 | Ed Kilgore

Posted on 08/19/2015 1:00:43 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

One of my working hypotheses this year is the possibility that partisan polarization has made a hash of traditional “electability” arguments for this or that “moderate” presidential candidate for the simple reason that swing voters are harder to find and harder to sway than in the past.

The data are a bit unclear on the subject just yet, and the cycle is still young. But new CNN/ORC poll findings today should provide a very rude shock to those who think Republican voters will finally wake up and realize Donald Trump would be a disaster as a general election candidate and stampede instead to a “grown-up” like Establishment fave Jeb Bush.

At this particular moment, Donald Trump is running better than Jeb Bush in trial general election match-ups with Hillary Clinton. You heard that right: Trump is pulling 45% to HRC’s 51%, while Jebbie’s at 43% compared to Clinton’s 52%.

Yes, yes, yes, it’s one poll and it’s early. But it’s another blow to the iron confidence of Establishment Republicans and MSM types and political scientists that all this “populist” nonsense will blow over and Republican voters will obediently fall in line for the candidate with the most endorsements by party leaders. If said leaders cannot even convincingly demonstrate that Jeb’s more electable than Donald Trump, why would Caucus and primary voters follow them over the cliff to support a guy they clearly don’t like?

Bush has two constituencies:

1) GOP domos (a small number of votes, lot of $$$)

2) Democrat Op Chaos supporters in open primaries (potentially large number of votes)

Oh the MSM is digging it!

Permit me to take a crack at this...

1) MSM records a comment from their political enemy
2) MSM pulls the quote from context
3) MSM revises quote to fit narative
4) MSM repeates revised quote as fact
5) MSM abandons quote and replaces with “comments”
6) MSM proclaims disgust and inserts adjective prefix to “comments” such as “disgusting comments”, “aweful comments”, “infuriating comments”...
7) MSM runs with the lie 24/7 fraudulently feigning offense.

New
8) American People are using social media (FB and YT)
9) American People are realizing “that’s not what he said”.
10) American People and turning off the MSM.
11) American People looking to Trump to echo more of their beliefs.

I think the opposite is true. Fewer voters have the kind of party loyalty they used to. There are now more registered independents than Pubs or Dems. People are disgusted with both parties. Trump has appeal to independents and even Democrats who would never vote for a GOPe guy because he clearly isn't part of the party establishment.

Bush stands about a zero chance of winning the General I don’t care who, or what, the Dms run. I just hope his lack of winning the General translates to his not winning the Nom. We are still VERY early.
