Why Donald Trump’s hostile takeover bid for the Republican Party is a loser
Reuters ^ | August 6, 2015 | Bill Schneider

There is only one way Donald Trump can win the Republican presidential nomination next year. It’s something he’s familiar with from his big business career. It’s called a hostile takeover.

Trump’s supporters will have to beat the Republican Party establishment into submission.

Wait a minute. Isn’t Trump the frontrunner for the Republican nomination going into the first debate? Yes. But he’s only got the support of a quarter of rank-and-file Republican voters. Nearly one-third of Republicans say they could not vote for Trump.

Trump is winning the Tea Party base of the GOP. They’re activist and they’re influential. But the Republican establishment looks at the Tea Party movement with deep suspicion. After all, outlandish Tea Party candidates kept the Republican Party from winning a Senate majority in 2010: Christine O’Donnell in Delaware (“I’m not a witch”), Sharron Angle in Nevada (unemployed Americans are “spoiled”), Ken Buck in Colorado (ban all abortions, including those for victims of rape and incest).

Tea Party nominees cost Republicans two more Senate seats in 2012: Todd Akin in Missouri (“legitimate rape” cannot result in pregnancy) and Richard Mourdock in Indiana (pregnancy as a result of rape is “something God intended to happen”).

Trump has said more than his share of outrageous things: “Barack Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud,” “Mexico is sending people who have lots of problems [including] drugs and being rapists,”(continued)

He does not even to begin to understand who is hostile and how many of us there are. It is actually funny for one of these supposed outside “experts” to deign to reason out why Trump is where he is right now.

Numbers? These a$$wipes haven’t seen the kind of numbers that are going to come down on them.

So how did that work for us in 2014? The R's have the Senate and, guess what?, NO DIFFERENCE. We're always ONE ELECTION AWAY for the RINO's

Hostile works for me. The "friendly" approach hasn't worked very well.

This is what passes for intellectual acumen. It is weak minded mediocrity. He wants to be considered smart so he says things that only very dimwitted leftists believe. This is a dilettante with aspirations, nothing more. His acceptance is a mark of the foolishness of those who consider his viewpoint valuable. Best to let the dumb lead the dumber.

I would see Trump as a hostile take back as 0 has the hostile takeover and assault against “The American Way”.

I’m utterly shocked that this guy is even still alive.

I used to hate him back in the 90s with that whiny voice of his.

But he’s only got the support of a quarter of rank-and-file Republican voters.

That may be, but who cares? God forbid "rank and file Republican voters" decide this election - America is kind of fed up with that nonsense. AND, he has the support of far more than that of the REAL CONSERVATIVES. I'm sticking with Cruz, but WILL vote for a Trump/Cruz ticket, if it came to that. Hell, I'd really like to be able to vote for a Cruz/Trump ticket, but I don't see that as likely.

All it takes is for Trump to win the primary for the Republicans, Billy Boy.

Desperation, only desperation (ok, a little hypocrisy, too... dementia if I’m generous) from the “progressive losers.” They can’t stand it that Donald has told the truth and tapped into the anger of the patriots. I think Trump would be a mixed bag of a president, and he’s not my first choice, but I would gladly pull the lever for him over over the witch or the communist dictator we now have.
