Donald Trump's 2016 presidential run seems custom-made for a third party. The billionaire developer has never held political office, never run as a Republican or Democrat. He doesn't need a party's money-raising apparatus. His anti-politician appeal "Politicians are never going to bring us to the promised land" cuts equally against Republicans and Democrats. And as far as Republicans are concerned, Trump appears to connect with GOP voters who are so disgusted with the party's current Washington leadership that they would be open to a third-party campaign.
But in an interview Tuesday, Trump said he has no interest in running as a third-party candidate, at least for the moment. "I've had many, many people ask me about running as an independent," Trump told me in a telephone conversation. "My sole focus is to run as a Republican. I'm a conservative Republican."
"My sole focus is to run as a Republican," Trump repeated, "because of the fact that I believe that is the best way we can defeat the Democrats."
When I asked Trump to elaborate on why he would stay in the GOP, Trump cited his rising position in the polls, the big crowds he attracts, and his profile in the race. "We've hit a nerve," he said.

I do not know what the GOP will do if elected nor I know what Clinton will do. In short, I’m going 3rd till they figure it out. So I hope Trump does 3rd as Patton would say ‘he’s the only son-of-a-bitch that know what he is doing.’
Unfortunately, I think the “hag” wins anyway. But Trump going third party makes the hag win in a landslide....
He got a bump from announcing and the media constantly promoting him. He still has very small numbers - probably grossly inflated.
You really did drink the Kool-Aid. Trump would look like a fool if people found out how much he really had after claiming $9 billion.
You're full of it ansel12.
Everyday, you viciously attack members with your nasty, unfounded assertions and character assassinations.
Rush is defending and praising Donald Trump, too, right along with Bill O'Reilly and Senator Ted Cruz; all three men a million times smarter and more knowledgeable than you.
You come across as terribly miserable and angry, always looking for a fight.
IMO, your life must be empty and very lonely.
I'll never vote for evil again, lesser or otherwise. YMMV.
No liberal will ever receive my vote.
Read the post, the pro-abortion gun banner Trump, is not a conservative.
Being mostly a democrat supporter, and even literally a democrat, isnt meaningless at all, it says everything about you and Trump, no integrity, and neither of you are conservatives.
Trumps first presidential campaign attempt was for 2000, where he wanted to run as third party with Oprah as his veep, and Charlie Rangel in his cabinet.
He gave up on that, and Oprah turned him down, so Trump joined the Democrat party in 2001, and stayed there through 2009, and then became a republican.
The pro-abortion/gun banner, Trump left the GOP and joined the democrat party during the time of Al Gore, John Kerry, Hillary, Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, and Harry Reid.
Onyx, pushing a pro-abortion candidate, what a shock.
LOL!
The issue is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!
ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID?
You may be out of luck unless a miracle happens and Cruz gets the nomination.
That’s what I’m praying for, a miracle.
Failing that, I would vote Trump to make Yeb Bush come in third and finally put the GOP out of our misery.
:)
That one is a troll.
LOL
:)
"The issue is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION! ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID?"
You really think that abortion is no longer an issue among conservatives and freerepublic?
We haven't become pro-abortion.
I have been posting since 2012 that 2016 would closely resemble 1860, with four major tickets. Neither party can swallow their populist alternative - Sanders and Trump. If, somehow, Hillary is denied the nomination she will run with Jeb Bush in a replay of Bell-Everett. Trump will be expelled from the GOP process as soon as he wins the first primary.
I've also posted the many differences between Trump and Perot.
Miracles can happen. But we really don’t need a miracle. If conservatives would throw their support behind Cruz, he’d be in.
If all we have to vote for is another liberal, then I guess I’m out of luck, because no Democrat will ever get my support.
To my knowledge, we haven't become pro-amnesty, either.
Trump is.
