Trump: I'm not thinking third party -- for now
Washington Examiner ^ | 7/7/15 | Byron York

Donald Trump's 2016 presidential run seems custom-made for a third party. The billionaire developer has never held political office, never run as a Republican or Democrat. He doesn't need a party's money-raising apparatus. His anti-politician appeal — "Politicians are never going to bring us to the promised land" — cuts equally against Republicans and Democrats. And as far as Republicans are concerned, Trump appears to connect with GOP voters who are so disgusted with the party's current Washington leadership that they would be open to a third-party campaign.

But in an interview Tuesday, Trump said he has no interest in running as a third-party candidate, at least for the moment. "I've had many, many people ask me about running as an independent," Trump told me in a telephone conversation. "My sole focus is to run as a Republican. I'm a conservative Republican."

"My sole focus is to run as a Republican," Trump repeated, "because of the fact that I believe that is the best way we can defeat the Democrats."

When I asked Trump to elaborate on why he would stay in the GOP, Trump cited his rising position in the polls, the big crowds he attracts, and his profile in the race. "We've hit a nerve," he said.

Really? He is to the right on immigration (at least by his statements recently) of everyone from Cruz to Sanders. I assume it is an act, but it is putting the issue into the campaign.

I consider taking a harsh and firm stand on illegals as the most conservative thing any one can do. If illegals are not stopped, say hello to a PERMANENT liberal democrat majority for a century.

Trump is a moron. If he doesn’t care about what happens to himself personally he should still care about what happens to his business interests. He just can’t help being a Donald Trump.

(and exhortations from party members to exclude Trump from the debates run along that line...

If the so-called leaders of the GOP had a lick of common sense, they would have come down like a ton of bricks on that donor who said they should try to exclude Trump from the debates. That's a good way to move Trump toward a third party run and also to offend all those voters who find significant agreement with him.

Take it from me, after a man approaches 70, first priority is not money. And if one is already mega-rich, the priority becomes LEGACY.

GOP is CONFUSED. They never have faced a situation in 100 years, when a NON-PROFESSIONAL-POLITICIAN rises to 2nd place in just a few days after declaring his candidacy.

Maybe...lots of things posted to me...some in favor and some against. Doesn’t really matter though I’ll say what I think regardless.

Trump wants to run the country but he can't even control his hair (or whatever that mess is).

If Trump goes third party, the Hag will win.

He will if Jeb, Chris, Linda or one of the other RINOs gets the nod. If the GOP chooses Cruz, he'll make about as much of an impact as Bob La Follette did in 1924.

Such a toothless threat. Trump will never run, he’s just using this for attention. He won’t release his financial info. If he ran for president, he’d have to raise more than $750 million.

By the way it’s been 16 days since he filed his candidate statement. You said he’d provide his financial quickly - I believe you said much faster than two week. Where is it?

If I was Trump, and saw my poll numbers rise to near top of GOP field in just a few days, I would be very serious about a run, even if it began as a lark. $750 Million? $500 could come from Univision alone. Trump has a slew of very good lawyers.

Trump will follow all rules about financial disclosures in legally allowed period. Rest assured. His holdings are vastly more complex and larger than any candidate who ever ran for president.

It isn’t meaningless at all, it says everything about you and Trump, no integrity, and neither of you are conservatives.

Trump’s first presidential campaign attempt was for 2000, where he wanted to run as third party with Oprah as his veep, and Charlie Rangel in his cabinet.

He gave up on that, and Oprah turned him down, so Trump joined the Democrat party in 2001, and stayed there through 2009, and then became a republican.

The pro-abortion/gun banner, Trump left the GOP and joined the democrat party during the time of Al Gore, John Kerry, Hillary, Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, and Harry Reid.

Candidates espousing 3rd Party, Independent, No Party, etc idealogy are out there.
Currently there are over 450 candidates that have filed the FEC Form 2 as a candidate.
Most won’t make a blip on the overall radar but each will get a few votes.
