The next election concievably could be a 4 way race. Establishment repub and dim as well as Trump and sanders as independents.

I have been posting since 2012 that 2016 would closely resemble 1860, with four major tickets. Neither party can swallow their populist alternative - Sanders and Trump. If, somehow, Hillary is denied the nomination she will run with Jeb Bush in a replay of Bell-Everett. Trump will be expelled from the GOP process as soon as he wins the first primary.

I've also posted the many differences between Trump and Perot.

Sanders is perfectly postured to run as an independent because he is one. I don't understand why the dims allow him to declare in their primary. He is also running a grass roots campaign very much like ron paul did.

Trump just likes to see his name in lights and because of that I think he will run anywhere he can create a niche. Republicans can only hope his draw isn't as strong as sanders is for the dims.

That scenario would give the Republican a plurality in the 2016 election.

All the states subscribing to the interstate compact would be obliged to give their electoral votes to the popular vote vinner. That could actually create an electoral landslide for a candidate that might get as little as 26% of the popular vote. I don't see that compact holding unless a dim is clearly going to win though.
