Kentucky's odd couple: the symbiotic friendship of Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell

Kentucky is one place in America where a tea-party firebrand and a Republican from the governance wing amicably meet.

For two Republican senators from the same state, Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell could not be more mismatched.

Senator Paul is a man in a hurry, with presidential stars in his eyes after a mere four years of serving Kentucky in Washington. The loquacious libertarian is a darling of young conservatives – a relaxed jeans-and-boots kind of guy.

Senator McConnell, after three patient decades in office, has finally reached his dream job of Senate majority leader. A man of few words, he’s from the establishment wing of the party. In Washington, he sometimes sports golden, presidential-seal cuff links.

“I don’t think any state has a more interesting pair of senators and a more influential pair of senators,” says Al Cross, director of the Institute for Rural Journalism and Community at the University of Kentucky in Lexington....

Mitch has become everybody’s favorite fool of a tool.
Mitch seems like a nice person, and has made a family life for himself, but he also seems detached from the reasons republicans voted as they did just a few months ago, last November. I wish he would resign ‘to spend more time with his family’.

He wants the title “Majority Leader” but does not want to carry the load that goes with the title.

Mitch McConnell may be all what you say, but he’s also a compromised, bought off politician who’s in the back pocket of the big money donors. The fact that Rand Paul is his new buddy makes it easy for me to cross him off my list of GOP candidates for president.

Rand most likely has lost my support due to pandering to Mitch’s support.

I’m done with the Uniparty. It’s just a rubber stamp for Obama’s dictatorship.

No matter who wants to vie for higher office.

Rand Paul is a true charlatan trying to play both sides. He telling Mississippi to get over Thad Cochran was enough for me

Why should he resign? It's a great gig. Be the Chamber of Commerce's point man for crony capitalism legislation, make sure any conservative Senate rules go nowhere, and work with Reid on keeping the Federal teat well fed.

Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.

This isn’t new, Rand supported Mitch’s reelection.

Unlike Mitch, Rand gave a major speech supporting amnesty, and supports Obama’s peace initiatives [sic] in the Middle East. Obama has sold Egypt, Iraq, Ukraine, and Europe down the river, and unlike Mitch, Rand has been 100 percent on board with that.

Paul is a lib who tries and pretends he is a republican while Mitch is a RINO.

Paul is a wolf in sheep’s clothing just like his nutty father.
