Full disclosure: I feel awful today. Vaguely half-nauseous, having what we will gently call ‘digestive issues,’ generally logy and possibly congested: it seemed like an excellent time to take it easy. It would take a definite electoral disaster to pierce this fog of illness, in short.

Here’s the video of the event: it autoplays and I can’t turn it off, so skip ahead to 3:28 – where, indeed, the First Lady called Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA) a USMC veteran*. I hope I need hardly note that Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA) is not, in point of fact, a military veteran? And that, in fact, his opponent Joni Ernst is still serving in the military? That Ernst, indeed, was deployed to Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom? – Because everybody else in that room – heck, in Iowa – knew that**.
Tell me again how having the First Lady swoop into problematic races is going to be helpful to the Democrats. No, really, tell me. Because I already know how it’s proving to be helpful to the GOP.

Bad mistake calling him of all things a Marine, when he’s not even any kind of a veteran. The not so bad mistake was getting his last name slightly wrong. I’ll bet she (Michelle) lords it over Obama when they’re at home alone. “You better get my vacation in the works because YOU NEED ME, and I DONT NEED YOU! Got it??!!” Follwed by a whispered “yes dear”. As usual, Valery then enters the room smiling, and pretends she did not just hear Michelle’s voice taking the paint off the historic White House Walls.
That’s the big question.
Mixed him up with Beetle Bailey... Simple mistake (GI grunt comic book character for present day Marine) ... but close enough. Particularly for an Ivy League graduate.

My late father retired from the Marines, whereas I was a soldier. I would never claim to be a Marine. And if I never served in uniform, I would be doubly cautious on that.
My late father was a Marine. A DI then he took a commission. At times I *felt* like I was in the Marines LOL. Had to have my bedroom inspected before I was allowed to use the family car for a date. Imagine how well that played out /grin
Humor aside, I despise any political bastard that falsely claims service. If Mr. Bailey did not publicly correct Moochelle’s statement, then he may as well have made the claim.
