Ted Cruz is the most popular politician in Texas, according to a Public Policy Polling Texas poll.
Cruz has a 47 percent approval rating better than both Rick Perry and John Cornyn, with only 35 percent who disapprove of him. He also continues to lead the Republican primary field for presidential candidates in Texas with 25 percent willing to support his campaign compared to Jeb Bush at 14 percent and Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul and Rick Perry each at 10 percent. Chris Christie and Paul Ryan received support for a potential presidential campaign from 5 percent of Texans polled, and Bobby Jindal and Marco Rubio got a 4 percent backing.
Unfortunately for Rick Perry, although his approval numbers are on the rise there seems to be little enthusiasm to see a repeat of his 2012 White House bid. Only 23 percent of Texans polled think he should run in 2016, compared to 66% who think he should sit it out. Even among strictly GOP voters, only 34 percent think he should make another bid with 52% thinking he should refrain.
According to Public Policy Polling, their data suggests most voters arent enthusiastic on their home state politicians making a run for the presidency. 46 percent of Texan republicans though think Ted Cruz should seek the Presidency in 2016, compared to 38 percent who would disapprove. However, among all Texas voters only 32 percent think he should make a bid, compared to 52 percent who said no.
All of the potential republican candidates for president received higher support ratings than Hillary Clinton, Rand Paul does the best with a 10 point advantage. Although Texas is a conservative state, the poll found public opinion sides with the democrats on several hot-button issues like increasing minimum wage, expanding Medicaid and supporting the Paycheck Fairness Act.
Eventually the Republican Party will nominate for better or worse Rand Paul. Should be interesting.
The nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Nevermind Texas, he’s probably one of the most popular politicians in the country.
I see now why Perry endorsed Cruz's opponent, David Dewhurst. lol!
Go Ted go! Go Sarah go! Take America back!
I am especially pleased that Amnesty loving Marco Rubio only ranks at 4%. He will never get back the support he had. Let this be a bellwether to all the rest.
Not even close! He’s the most popular politician, period! He gets the job done, and I’m proud to call him a fellow Texan!
Ted Cruz is the Most Interesting politician by far. All the others appear weak-kneed.
