Gingrich Takes Risk With Immigration Stance
The Wall Street Journal ^ | November 23, 2011 | Naftali Bendavid

In openly embracing a more relaxed approach to immigration than many conservative activists, Newt Gingrich on Tuesday night stepped directly into one of the fiercest debates within the Republican Party.

The former House speaker, during the GOP presidential debate, tied his position to everything from law-and-order to family values to religion. But he still took a major political risk in suggesting that illegal aliens who have lived in the U.S. for a long time should not be deported.

"If you've been here 25 years and you've got three kids and two grandkids, you've been paying taxes and obeying the law, you belong to a local church, I don't think we're going to separate you from your family, uproot you forcefully and kick you out," Mr. Gingrich said, providing the debate's most striking moment.

The comment didn't reflect a new position for Mr. Gingrich. He supported a much-debated 1986 law that provided a path to citizenship and he sponsors a website, "The Americano," which looks at issues important to Hispanics....

Millions of people have entered. And we let them. It’s not like we didn’t know it was happening. We did nothing. Doesn’t make it right but we made our own problem.

We need to enforce the law. We need to deny them welfare and free benefits. That would go a long way to solving the problem.

Newt is right. It is simply never going to happen. It is a nightmarish scenario which would result in GOP loses up and down the ballot for generations.

Furthermore, conservatives entirely miss the cause and effect. This is not an immigration problem. This is an ABORTION ON DEMAND CONSEQUENCE.

Think about when and WHY this issue began. This is not a long standing GOP platform issue. There are no major national groups like the NRA behind it, in fact the major groups raising money to build a fence turned out to be con-men taking your money and did not build jack!

Conservatives who talk “they are breaking the law” obviously have never read Blackstone. No man made statute is just if it not moral in the first place. These immigration laws you want so badly to be enforced were written by liberals who have designs on creating a permanent slave class.

And the problems with the Welfare state are just problems with the welfare state and have nothing to do with immigration.

Why are all these politicians for letting in illegals, and letting in foreign products that destroy U.S. jobs and industries? Why are they not for America first?

Deport all illegals.

Stop the illegal immigrant invasion.

Don't let any more immigrants into the U.S. and don't let any more foreign made products into the U.S.A. ( no more made in China etc): and that will save America.

Yes , and reduce the size of government and reduce taxes and regulations.

There is only one that is for stopping China from dumping cheap products into the U.S. , and who is for stopping illegals and that is Pat Buchanan.

Perry is partially correct.
Nothing can be done till we seal the border.
Even then, we need to lean hard on the Mexican Gov as well as our own, if there is ever to be reform.

I seriously think we need to whip up on the Mexican Gov if we are to fix this issue.

So long as life there sucks worse than life here, they will risk heaven and earth to get here.

We can’t even get a floor vote on E-Verify legislation because of the obstruction from GOP House leadership. What makes anyone think that the GOP is serious about reducing illegal immigration???

Newt is right.

Nope

It is simply never going to happen.”

If people like you had their way, it won't.

It is a nightmarish scenario which would result in GOP loses up and down the ballot for generations”

You got it the other way round.
Providing a path to citizenship for millions of Mexican illegals will guarantee GOP losses for generations.

Pat Buchanan needs to run or we need to draft him.

I just don't get it .What's up with these politicians ? It seems all of them are for other countries first, like China. Are they idiots ,traitors , sell outs or all of the above? Don't they understand that they live in the U.S. too? And that their stupid policies are helping Mexico , China etc. and letting in illegals and 3rd world immigrants and foreign products is destroying America.

Pat Buchanan needs to run or we need to draft him.

I've read his books. He is the only one who knows how to save America, first by stopping immigration from the 3rd world and by stopping China and others from dumping cheap products that destroy U.S. jobs and industries.

Epic Fail. That sealed the deal. (And sealed his fate), if you ask me. Very self damaging, particularly in Iowa, South Carolina, Nevada, those kinds of places, where the base is NOT going to take kindly to that benevolent, forgiving approach on serious immigration violations).

Read his ten point plan on his website. You agree with him and don't even know it.

Correct (no sarc). The corollary to that of course is, you are so wrong. Most Latinos, like most blacks, will continue to vote for the Democrats no matter what. For any GOP candidate to pander to Latino law breakers at the cost of alienating the GOP base (who actually elect GOP candidates)is sheeer insanity.

I don’t care about his plan. He could flip on any of them on a dime. He has no core.

You will be relieved I'm sure to know that you agree with Newt on this point. His plan explicitly excludes citizenship. (Except for those who volunteer and serve in the US military and wish to pursue citizenship afterward.)

Don't you feel better now that you know the truth and can stop lying?
