Mike Huckabee withdrawal helps Sarah Pailin get back in the race for president
Irish Central ^ | May 13, 2011 | Patrick Roberts

Mike Huckabee's expected departure from the Republican race for president opens the door for Sarah Palin again.

Palin has gone quiet after the media sizzle around her died and transferred to Donald Trump.

But with Trump fading faster than a losing 'Apprentice' competitor and Huckabee now looking like he will drop out, Palin is suddenly back in this race if she wants.

Huckabee, with his strong evangelical roots, was a natural to win Iowa and Palin enjoys a comparable level of support among those voters.

Contrast that with Mitt Romney who is held in deep suspicion in the first caucus state, not only because of his moderate politics but also his Mormon religion.

That only leaves Palin as the evangelical choice as none of the other contenders have seriosu traction with those voters.

A win in Iowa could galvanize the Palin campaign heading into New Hampshire in January.

That would be a turn up for the books, but with the Republican race so volatile anything can happen.

Mitt Romney will not be the clear front runner if and when Huckabee announces he is stepping down, but I have believed for some time that he has a very soft core of support.

As usual 'savior' canddiates such as Mitch Daniels are being spoken about as well as Jeb Bush but I feel the winner will come form the present field.

Which is why I think Palin is so intriguing once again.

She has differentiation and a hard core base of support something no other candidate really has with Huckabee out.

I think she is back in with a real chance to win.

Losing with Sarah makes more sense than losing with Huckabee.

I totally agree that Sarah is the Republican nominee and President in 2012 if she announces which is why I pray so hard that she announces and runs. She will put our country back on track!!!!

I don't fathom how the author's article perceives any equivalency between Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee.

Sarah Palin is a true patriotic Constitutional Conservative with a solid track record and impeccable credentials. Huckabee is a big government, tax and spend nanny stater with a tarnished record.

In my opinion, there's no overlap at all between Sarah Palin's supporters and those backing the Huckster. Consequently the starting premise of the article is flawed.

Author has it backwards. Huckabee isn't running because he knows Palin takes it all as soon as she announces. Period.

The gnashing of teeth and lamentations of the women among the Republican elite will be great. Be intersting to see if they drag old Jeb out o da bushes for a last ditch run.

Even better, what if Palin wins? I mean, they’ve painted her as the biggest idiot since Curly of the Three Stooges, but she cranks out what seems like pretty clear prose to me. So what happens when the debates come and she doesn’t immediately slobber on her bib?

I’ve been a Palin fan months before McCain picked her, and I would be doing cartwheels if she entered the race. But somehow I don’t feel it. I don’t think she will run for President, but instead will continue to be a major outside force, stumping for whoever does. I am thrilled that the Huckster will not run. Let’s hope Romney will follow Huckabee out the door.

This is idiotic.

I doubt Palin cares much, one way or the other, if Huckster ran or not.

Her decision to run or not run, will have absolutely nothing to do with whatever Huckster did or does.

That said, I doubt Huckster not running, has anything to do with Palin either, he finally has money, a nice house, and an opportunity to make some cash, plus he wasn't likely to win anyway.

I'd be absolutely stunned, if Palin gives Huckster even the time of day.

His dropping out has nothing to do with Palin, just as Palin running or not running, has nothing to do with this fraud.

He dropped, because, he finally got some money in his pocket, and can actually have a nice life now (well paid job, house on the beach in florida, etc)...

If he wanted to keep those paychecks and not give them up by wasting time running in a primary he can't win, then he had to quit.

I'm hoping she runs, but I have this feeling, that she's not going to do it, just a gut, and I hope I am wrong.

Correct, what huck does has nothing to do with Palin running or not.

Palin is the best social and economic Conservative out there! She can be trusted to do what she says and if she runs, it will be with much prayer, and she will have a higher power leading her every step of the way.

If she runs and he doesn’t then it will give me a chance to see if I was reading Huckabee correctly in regards to Palin.

There was a period when people here were seeing Huckabee as attacking Palin, I didn’t see it, in fact I thought that he was defending her.

Palin needs Huckabee’s endorsement and I think that she would get it.

I don’t understand why he does, but the polls have shown us over the last 3 years that Huckabee matters somehow, in fact he is important in some way, I hope that way is Governor Palin.

Well, for starters, I do know for a fact that Pailin is a very small town filled with former Khmer Rouge cadre, in far western Cambodia.

Palin is good, but I don't yet think she represents maximum firepower against the Obama Releection Campaign next year, on our side.

Was Ronald Reagan the favorite against the entrenched Jimmy Carter in 1979?

Have you been hiding in a hole with OBL? Both Huck and Sarah got a lot of support from the evangelical faith based crowd.
