INSIDE THE PALIN BUBBLE: Here's Why the 2012 Republican Frontrunner Just Made Such a Fool of Herself
Business Insider ^ | January 14, 2011 | John Ellis, media consultant and first cousin of President George W. Bush

Could the contrast have been more stark?

President Obama was, to borrow John Podhoretz's phrase, "pitch perfect" in his speech at the Memorial "service" in Tucson, Arizona. He focused on those whose lives were cut short, those whose lives were shattered, what we might learn from this searing atrocity and why it's important that we do so. The President rose to the moment with dignity and grace.

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, chose to respond to the atrocity by proclaiming that she was the victim of a "blood libel," attacked by evil meanies on the television set, when there was no evidence that her actions had anything to do with the actions of the loon who committed the atrocity. Factually true enough, I would say. But who cares? And why bother even mentioning it? It couldn't be less important. It couldn't be more self-absorbed.

All presidents and all presidential candidates (announced and unannounced) live in what Richard Ben Cramer called "the bubble." It's an hermetically sealed environment which allows very few "outsiders" in and goes to great lengths to keep the number of "insiders" to a minimum. This is why such great emphasis is placed on the people around the President (who they are, what they think, what their skill sets are, etc) by the political community as a whole (including political journalists and opinion makers). The insiders "protect" the president from the hundreds and thousands of bothersome people who are clamoring to give him their ideas. The insiders control what the president reads, what he sees, who he sees. They make sure that very few people get inside the bubble for very good reason(s) and for reasons that are sometimes not so pure.....

Are the Bushies backing Mitt Romney or do they really think that Jeb Bush can grab the nomination? And how would Mr. Obama's address have gone if he'd been implicated in the murders in Tucson?

They know she's inevitable.

They knew it the first time they saw her.

It's why they go insane ever time they think of her.

ineluctable

BTW, this is the guy who had Fox News call Florida for Dubya back in 2000, so he’s no distant relative, he’s right in the middle of the Bush camp. His full name is John PRESCOTT Ellis.

They're taking a shot at it for sure.

Yup, always easy to say when you’re not the one being accused. I really detest these people.

Barbara Bush has already said she wishes Sarah would stay in Alaska...and laughed like she thought is was "cute."

I think the Bushes should stay out of politics now because they only make themselves look stupid and nobody cares what they think anyway...at least this side of the Hudson River.

Sarah was as much as a victim of the Tucson shooting as any of the other victims.

And, I didn’t watch the speech, but I don’t recall at the time people saying Obama was “pitch perfect”. I think I recall people saying it was like a political rally instead of a memorial. Or has my memory completely failed me.

Wouldn’t go quite that far, but I appreciate where the sentiment is coming from.

It was a political RALLY, NOT a memorial. A fake indian medicine quack???? T-shirts for everyone from the Re-elect Obama team: Clapping, hollering, and you think this was a memorial??? Hell, it was all about Obozo, not the victims! You think you can get a RINO socialist like Romney elected to do your bidding? We’re the Conservatives in America, and you are a DMF RINO. You want to know who made a fool of himself? You did by writing this tripe!

... and they just gave her MORE free press! What’s that old saying about good or bad press - so long as they’re talking about you it’s good?

I notice the high praise of Obama always leave out the pep rally atmosphere and the campaign tee shirts.

No, they have to make it sound like he was solemn and it was Presidential. They also fail to mention that Palin was libeled and savaged by the media or that her complaint took up less than 15% of the speech they are talking about.

This whole article is just recycled pap.

The writer must not have listened to either speech. Palin first and foremost addressed the tragedy. She then went on to call out the media on their lies. She didn’t defend, she skewered.

Obama’s speech was a pep rally for the left, an attempt to pull the wool over our eyes pretending he’s compassionate and cares for the people. I felt so bad for those who had lost family and friends, and for the injured, to have their misfortune used for political gain.

The writer just listened to some talking heads.

Yes, but the significance of it was that it was written by one of the Bush inner circle.

If by "Bushie" you mean someone who has great respect for Bush and thinks he was a pretty good President, then the answer is no, this Bushie is not backing Romney or Jeb Bush.

Sarah was seriously wounded just moments after the shooting by those Democrats who pinned the responsibility of the shooting on her.

She is indeed a victim.
