An IBD/TIPP poll found that two out of three physicians oppose the overhaul plan that congress is working on.
The kicker though is that hundreds of thousands would consider closing their doors or retire early if the plan were to pass. In 2006 there were some 800,000 doctors. 45% would be about 360,000. Scary huh?

The LATimes sai yesterday the AMA is in full support.
Who’s lying.
Very scary.
No worries...I’m sure ACORN can pick up the slack...
They will arrest their grand kids.
Whos lying.
Since the AMA represents only a fraction of the medical doctors in this country, the true answer is likely to be nobody is lying, per se. The only lie is the implication that the AMA speaks for doctors on the whole, when they do not...
the infowarrior
I believe the AMA only represents something like a third of doctors.
The AMA is a political group representing a small fraction of doctors. Both are truthful, but the LAT story is misleading because the AMA only speaks for the most liberal of doctors, not the majority.
The AMA represents only 20% of doctors, and is hardly unanimous at that. So their "support" means little compared to a survey of physicians at large.
Now wait a minute!! I was told on the NEWS yesterday that over 50% of doctors WANT a public option because they are (and I quote) “very happy with Medicare and Medicaid”.
That's right... I read something along those lines too... I need to ask some of the medical professionals that I know about and ask them what they think about it...
Quit and do what? Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure that a sizable percentage don’t like what they see in Obama’s hell-th care plan but six figure jobs aren’t exactly falling out of trees.
AMA represents a very small portion - about 15% of these doctors. Let them be in full support. The rest of the doctors AREN’T!
Doctors are already peeling themselves from the AMA, which hilariously, only speaks for 18-19% of all practicing doctors.
I don’t believe that for a second.
My brother-in-law is a physician. He’s taking active steps to prepare for an early retirement if obamacare is passed.
Just down-sized his house, saving aggressively, not buying
new vehicles even though his wife is currently driving an 8 year old vehicle.
His college age children were required to attend a state university where they had scholarships vs. the private schools to which they really wanted to attend.
And from what I can gather, many of his colleagues are taking similar steps.
Gonna be a MASSIVE doctor shortage!
I’ve heard said the AMA represents approx a third of doctors.
Ping.
