An Oregon man accused of spiking smoothies with sedatives and giving them to his daughter’s pre-teen friends has been charged with multiple felonies, according to court documents.
Michael Meyden, 57, of Lake Oswego, allegedly drugged three of his daughter’s friends while they slept over on the night of Aug. 25, 2023, according to court documents and a probable cause affidavit filed this week in Clackamas County.
The girls, all 12 years old, were hospitalized and tested positive for benzodiazepine, described in the affidavit as a drug typically prescribed for anxiety, with common prescriptions under the names Valium, Xanax and Klonopin. Benzodiazepines are a depressant that produces sedation, sleepiness and a relaxed mood, the affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, two girls slept on a pull-out couch in the basement, while two others slept in a bedroom in the basement. The third girl, who didn’t drink much of the smoothie, reported that Meyden came downstairs more than once. She had been sleeping close to another girl and said Meyden tried to physically separate the two, the document stated.

“Mom please pick me up and say I had a family emergency. I don’t feel safe. I might not respond but please come get me,” one of the texts said, according to the affidavit. “Please. Please pick up. Please. PLEASE!!”

When your child is spending the night with friends, always make sure you are only a text or phone call away and check your phone occasionally. There is no need to be paranoid, but being aware of the possibilities and available if needed is a strong recommendation.
Everyone hears of that case in the news where all a person's friends and neighbors said (after the fact), "I would have never suspected him! He was always so good with kids and has been such a close friend of our family".
What was he planning to do, molest his daugher’s friends? Was his daughter completely unaware of his evil personality? I’m not blaming her just asking, the article won’t let me read without disabling my ad blocker on it and it’s evry article lately that says that. That is why I got an ad blocker.

My 7-y/o daughter recently had a sleepover with three of her friends. By 9:00 pm they were all fighting with each other and crying.
That's what I expect.
Either that or he didn't want them up all night and he'd have to supervise and he didn't want to.
But these days, so much for the benefit of the doubt. My guess is that you are right.
It’s frightening to think what he would have done not only to the drugged girls but also to the awake girl! Having a live witness would have been a “hindrance” that he would had to keep silent!
Good for the brave girl and her parents for letting her have a cell phone.

Wouldn’t Xanax and the rest be Prescription? Gotta wonder who the dope was actually for? We had a local gal get busted for driving under Xanax that she got prescribed for her German Shepherd.
When our daughters were that age, my wife and I would veto sleepovers except for few families we knew well. Girls were upset at the time, but they never experienced any problems.
