(No one ever talks about how Nixon saved Israel from total collapse after the ‘73 Yom Kipper war.)
His finest hour IMHO
Why must Trump be discredited and destroyed? That’s the ultimate question. What about Trump and/or his agenda is such an existential threat to them? China? Immigration? SCOTUS? Some combination thereof? Something else entirely? I honestly don’t know, but I’d love to hear some opinions.
I honestly do think of Trump as kind of a superman. A mere mortal would have buckled and resigned under the pressure he faced as a result of Russia Gate.
I think that any future Republican presidents (assuming there are any) will be tested and villfied in much the same way. We will see the extent to which Trump serves as a model for them.
It was a coup.
That’s the danger in any government entity. When people post global warming nonsense, I always ask, how does writing a check to the govt “fix” it? How do we know when its “fixed?” And name a govt entity that was disbanded after its core objectives were met.
The orchestrated removal of Nixon enabled the fall of South Vietnam as the Dems got a veto proof majority in the 1974 congressional elections and despite the fact that JFK and LBJ started the war, they wanted to screw the US effort. They were such damaging hypocrites; I remember Ted Kennedy, of all people, years later grudgingly saying the Ford pardon of Nixon was in retrospect probably the right thing to do. This from a man gingerly treated by the Massachusetts judicial system for having left a girl drown despite having at least three hours of air in a pocket in the back seat of his Oldsmobile, the same shameless hypocrite who wore a neck brace once, the day he had to appear at trial.
“No one ever talks about how Nixon saved Israel from total collapse after the ‘73 Yom Kipper war.”
The Israelis saved themselves by preparing to use nuclear weapons. Nixon and Kissinger got alarmed and immediately began supplying a conucopia of conventional weapons.
Nixon was a smart man, but totally amoral. His support for Pakistan’s attack on Bangla Desh proved that.
The solution to seriously polluted rivers was to stop the additions of pollutants and dilution. Very little else was done. The Corps of Engineers or Department of Interior could have done the job of EPA and then gotten back to their core mission.
Politicians and high profile CEOs don't do things in a small, quiet, practical and efficient way. They don't like to use the tools at hand, just not spectacular enough and are a closet admission of their inattention to problems. They have to make a headline and so they create monsters and monuments to their stupidity and arrogance. That is how superfluous irritations and trouble makers like EPA get started.
Tricky Dick also gave us OSHA and the NTSB as part of his legacy. Nixon was as much a big gooberment wonk as many now.
Yes, he was “big government “ but that was also the right & left political culture of the era. “Big Government “ solved the Depression and won WWII at least that’s what everyone believed. So “Big Government” can solve all problems! Even Republicans believed that; FDR’s socialism was ok just needed to be managed better. Remember Social Security is a retirement system also it’s your money and other pet myths of the New Deal. My father called those GOPers that thought that way “Me Too” Republicans. Nixon to a great extent represented that era & political thinking though not completely. For example, he had to be brow beaten into accepting Keynesian economics.
No good deed goes unpunished
It is a mistake to believe “we” are going to export freedom to Russia and China.
From out here in the cheap seats, it looks a whole lot more like totalitarian policies are being exported here. Most notably, free speech - on the internet, but numerous other avenues.
That's what the elites do, both in and out of government, and they do it quite well -- and have been for decades.
The public and gullible among us are fed a constant barrage of lies and propaganda. And, for the most part, it works. Nixon is a perfect example, and of course, Trump is in the crosshairs as well and has been since first coming on the scene.
The problem for those in the propaganda-spewing business is that at least a fair amount of us now see through this -- thus, we will elect Trump.
They will never stop the lies. Just don't forget it.
Teddy didn’t even have a driver license.
How??
That's not our job!
Let them live the life they want to live. When we take care of our own problems and become a living example, maybe they will be encouraged to change.
Otherwise, why are we so obsessed over how they live their lives?? I don't get it.
BTTT
The reason Trump is hated is that he is returning the power to the people where it belongs.
“Why must Trump be discredited and destroyed? That’s the ultimate question”
Pure jealousy. Because he made his fortune by honest, intelligent business dealings.
The DC crowd goes up there as people who for the most part couldn’t manage a lemonade stand and they make their fortune doing insider trading that would get any mere mortal locked in Federal prison for decades.
Look how they tried to destroy Martha Stewart. What she did was not a drop of water in the Pacific compared to what our betters engage in -every single day-. Yet they are allowed to do it.
If they were not in DC, most of our betters would be making meth in bathtubs for a living, if they were even that reputable.
Absolutely. And the same with McCarthy for his part in exposing Communist infiltration in our government.
As for Trump-I have come to the conclusion that they feel extremely threatened by Trump because he isn’t one of them, and they don’t have anything to hold over his head. (If they did, they would have used it long before now).
He is not beholden to them, and doesn’t answer to them.
It is alway why I have become a McCarthy historian, as amateur as I am, because the injustice done to that man sticks in my craw...especially what we know of the Left today.
If we had gotten behind him and supported McCarthy and not let him be easily slandered the way he was back in the early Fifties, the problems we have today with the Left might not be so appalling.
McCarthy is an American Hero, and should be treated as such. For too long, we have simply swallowed what the Left has characterized McCarthy as. I heard it from the media. From the school and colleges I went to. I heard it from everyone, so...he must have been a bad man.
Nothing of the sort. He should be celebrated.
I agree-the EPA in and of itself, for the purpose it was implemented, was a noble one. But giving an agency all that power over the years to legislate, enact law, and to punish people was an object example of why big-government is evil, wasteful, and tyrannical.
Now, it is, as you pointed out, ALL agencies doing that.
We have to fix that. All legislation and law must originate with the Legislative branch, not the Executive Branch, not the Judicial branch, not with the myriad of agencies, and most definitely not from the offices of a multitude of unelected bureaucrats we call the Deep State.
The reason Trump is hated is that he is returning the power to the people where it belongs.
He was also doing thing that were anathema to them, but they could not easily stop it (until the Pandemic).
Agreed. He obtained a diplomatic solution to the Vietnam War, after forcing them to the negotiating table with Linebacker II in December of 1972. But as soon as the Left gained control, they cut legs right out from under the South Vietnamese by refusing to allow us to live up to our end of that treaty.
That gave them the green light to go full scale war.
IMO, at that point, we should have resumed bombing Hanoi, and re-laid the mines in Haiphong Harbor (which, if I am not mistaken, we helped them remove)
But the Left wanted to cut and run, and they did.
