Nixon comes across as a wise if not brilliant man here.

Interesting video for the “younger” ones to see!

Nixon was half right about there being a reversion to despotism. I don’t think he ever imagined that it would happen right here in the US.

They will have to see it under adult supervision. President Nixon has been villified by the dimrats to the point that he is their boogieman.

Their hatred of him started the meme that all Republican presidents are felons or nincompoops.

Very safe, and also Nixon looked pretty healthy for 20 years after resigning

Still hear leftist lament the two landslide Nixon victories.

My favorite is “journalist “ of the time making statements like, how did he win no one I know voted for him….

So things have not changed, the idea that biased “reporting” is a new thing is false, just more exposed.

I have always liked aspects of Richard Nixon. I read a few of his books he wrote after his presidency.

Like many, I took extreme issue with his implementation of price controls, and the EPA, but back then, I didn’t know enough about those things to understand how destructive they were.

I will always cut Nixon slack based on two things: his part in bringing down Alger Hiss, and the bombing of Hanoi and the mining of Haiphong harbor in December 1972.

Plus, he made me realize what tools the US Media are. Fully on the side of the Left.

Despotism is the natural state of government.

The EPA is a classic example of what happens when “moderate” Republicans are in charge.

In the beginning it helped clean up incredibly dirty rivers and extreme and dangerous pollution of various types.

In a few decades it has morphed into a monster telling people how much water can be used by their toilets.

I also believe he loved this country very much. I have tremendous respect for the man. Not all of his policies of course, but he was a giant in some ways.

Wowie. Too bad we don’t have leaders like him anymore that can at least articulate what’s at stake. All they do is lie to us now. It looks like the new despotism has already taken root in Russia. How we going to sell freedom to Russia and China when we can’t even run a fair election effectively? We have our own freedoms to worry about that are being threatened.

Had some San Francisco friends invite me to dinner, when it turned to politics their daughter (about my age) asked if I was republican, I said, yep, I would vote for Nixon again. They never invited me over again.

“So things have not changed, the idea that biased “reporting” is a new thing is false, just more exposed.”

Yup! I recall the media’s hatred of Nixon. And Walter Crookedkite, labeled as the “Most Trusted Man In America”, who purposely lied about the Vietnam war in an effort to turn public opinion.

They got by with biased reporting in the 60’s and it only got worse. Today false reporting is as common as it was in Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany. The people just expect it.

“and the EPA, but back then, I didn’t know enough about those things to understand how destructive they were.”

I do not think the original intent of the EPA was to be destructive. Rather any agency the left gets control of can and will be an administrative tool to promote their agenda.

Just about any government agency or department is now making administrative rules to run the country. Rules made by appointees while our elected representatives do nothing about it.

I think the SES employees running these outfits are actually running the country in collusion with the rat party. They are the Deep State. The most effective way for Trump to eliminate the Deep State is to fire these employees.

Nixon was a pretty good President; but he was way off on ping pong diplomacy with the ChiComms. We did not protect our industries, pretending we were beyond that and now in the information age. Cost us many industries and jobs.

It was under Nixon that the MSM discovered that they could take down a sitting President by controlling the message.
No one ever talks about how Nixon saved Israel from total collapse after the ‘73 Yom Kipper war.

FDR in 44 and Truman in 48, each referred to Republican Tom Dewey as a fascist or Nazi. Only Ike has been spared the fascist name tag.

“his part in bringing down Alger Hiss”

The left never forgave Nixon for that one. Of course he was vindicated when the truth about Hiss came out, but the widespread infiltration of so many institutions in the ‘30s and ‘40s with Stalin’s dupes had to be covered up, and red hunters like Nixon and Joe McCarthy had to be vilified and discredited. In many ways, Nixon was the proto-Trump, viscerally hated the left in ways that establishment Repubs like the Bushes or even Reagan weren’t.

Why must Trump be discredited and destroyed? That’s the ultimate question. What about Trump and/or his agenda is such an existential threat to them? China? Immigration? SCOTUS? Some combination thereof? Something else entirely? I honestly don’t know, but I’d love to hear some opinions.
