According to far-left outlet Slate, which is loath to ever criticize a Democrat, Biden is facing the worst environment for an incumbent president since the Great Depression. Poll after poll shows the president's numbers plummeting to record lows.
As President Joe Biden grows increasingly mystified by his unpopularity, he is also experiencing the worst polling of his presidency. This plummet was punctuated by last Thursday’s release of several Bloomberg/Morning Consult surveys showing him getting swept in a series of battleground states. Then, on Tuesday, yet another New York Times/Siena College survey showed former President Donald Trump beating Biden nationally and, perhaps most shockingly, with young voters. Now that the contact high of the most recent Democratic election overperformance in November’s off-year contests has worn off, genuine fear has set in among both Democratic insiders and the rank and file as the president trails Trump by 3 points in the RealClearPolitics average.
Precisely how scared Democrats should be about Biden’s standing depends on how his plight compares with those of presidents past. And there’s no sugarcoating it: This might be the worst polling environment for an incumbent president one year out from an election since the advent of the polling era in the 1930s and also the most dire situation facing any Democratic presidential candidate in decades. Panic is entirely warranted.
It's not just head-to-head polling that has become a horror show for Biden. As the article notes, the current president is in far worse shape regarding his approval ratings than Donald Trump was at this point in the 2020 election cycle. Specifically, Biden's net negative approval is nearly twice as high.
It gets worse. In his approval ratings, too, compared with his incumbent predecessors, Biden is likewise off on an island, in all the wrong ways. Bush was sporting 58 percent favorability at this stage in the 2004 cycle, with nearly a 21-point net favorability. Obama was at 45 percent with a net negative approval of -4 points. (Of course, both went on to win their elections.) Trump was at 44 percent and -8.8 net approval, and we all know what happened there. Biden as of this writing is averaging just 40.5 percent in the RealClearPolitics average, with a net -15.4—nearly twice as bad as Trump on net.
There are two ways to look at this if you are a Republican, and I think both are valid. On one hand, it is never a bad thing to be leading among various indicators heading into an election. Biden has multiple things working against him. His actual performance has been abysmal, but he is also perceived as feeble, senile, and rapidly declining due to his advanced age. Worse for him, he's perceived that way because those things are actually happening. There's no recovering from that with just a shift in messaging.
On the other hand, Republicans have to be extremely careful to not get overconfident. We've been fooled by bad polling before, including in the most recent major election. Democrats not only overperformed in 2022, but they've overperformed in almost every special election since. There is certainly a turnout dynamic that has been favoring them since 2018, and it can't be ignored.
Advertisement The worst thing Republicans could do is assume Biden will simply lose by default. There's a ton of money that will be spent by Democrats in 2024, and their most ruthless moves (especially regarding the weaponization of government) will be played in the summer, not now.
Regardless, Biden is in trouble, and Democrats know he's in trouble. How far into the process can the party wait before making a change? Conceivably, Biden could hang around until the convention so as not to become a lame duck too early. He could then bow out gracefully, citing some kind of health issue. Democrats would then be able to reset the race at the perfect time.
Would Biden do that, though? I highly doubt it. Jill Biden's ambition wouldn't let him. She enjoys being treated like a pampered queen, and she's not going to let that go willingly. In other words, Democrats look like they are screwed, but Republicans need to campaign like they are down five points. Take nothing for granted.
The worst thing Republicans could do is assume, b/c
Trump is so far ahead, that Biden will simply lose by default.
Tons of money will be spent for the Democrats’ expensive voter fraud machine.
But power-hungry Democrats’ most ruthless moves will be played in the summer, not now.
(Democrats’ specialty is the weaponization of government against opponents.)
Don’t know why they’re baffled. i guess they haven’t noticed that in addition to being corrupt, incompetent and demented, he is a hotheaded bully and a nasty person.
Sure. He can be sold as a legitimate candidate. That will be enough.
Exactly. Didn’t DeNiro say he doesn’t care if Biden is on a stretcher in a coma or something to that effect?
A month or so back Newsom was testing the waters for a Presidential run by traveling to China and posing as some sort of world leader. The world laughed.
Notice he’s quiet these days? He’s done.
“I am mystified, flummoxed by the degree of my unpopularity!”
Says the fool on a capitol hill.
When the Big Steal was happening, I foolishly thought that courts would put a stop to it. The longer the Bidet Regimes governs, the more unpopular it becomes because it does not serve the people, it does not make their lives better, and it governs by divide and conquer tactics that to which people are getting wise. African-Americans and Hispanics are some of the least woke people in the U.S. They are getting fed up with the Rats. With RFK, Jr. on the ballot, those who dislike Trump have another option to express themselves, and with that option, the amount of votes the Rats will need to steal in 2024 becomes staggering.
They have stolen election after election where I live, but I come here to read all the normies shouting and cheering over the vital strategies of our grand electoral systems and courts. “Oh no, the Democrats have the abortion play again and everybody wants one.” “Oh no. The Wisconsin Supreme Court says to use blue paper this time.”
But for some reason, the Democrats don’t get as much joy if we don’t play along and watch them win again. Maybe we can rename the place the United States of Abortion. Won’t have to change the initials.
So does this mean the democrat press has to finally admit the economy is bad, inflation is bad, real estate is bad, etc?
"... treated as individuals, human beings do not present great problems, but when they are treated as arbitrary racial groups, social and international difficulties are created. It is our task to retain the individual as that foundation of society, irrespective of his race, color, or religion. It is a problem we must face and solve - no matter what the cost may be to our false dignity or imagined self-interest. Left unsolved, the cost will prove beyond calculation."
Ansel Adams, Born Free and Equal
it’s reality setting in...
Can we stop with this? There is zero panic. Election integrity is gone.
Where is the RNC in all of this? I have not heard one word from them in any form of support for Trump’s legal assaults. They are worthless! Both parties are done! The future is MAGA.
“We’ve been fooled by bad polling before, including in the most recent major election.“
More like they stole it as far as I’m concerned.
This is a surreptitious call to anti-Trumpers everywhere to do what you have to do to get Biden re-elected and, as always, the end justifies the means.
And we're walking right into it by ensuring Trump is our nominee, exactly who they want to run against.
These polls are such BS, --and FReepers believe them which is even more embarrassing. If they were true, Trump would be heading towards an Electoral Count victory not seen since 1984 or 1972 and that's just preposterous.
Once Trump clinches the nomination, we'll see the real polling. 2024 is shaping up to be a total catastrophe. Oh well... Can't say we weren't warned.
Oh yeah, that's the ticket. Every election we lose was stolen.
And people here will be crying "muh stolen elections!" again in 2024, for all the good it'll do us.
When you consider that normally DemoKKKrats could rouse a few more voters for election day. But now, high turnout is the GOP friend as the unregistered are breaking for Trump by 17 points according to Baris. In other words, Rutabaga has no where to go but further down.
Remember when newsome went to the wh to “visit.” He’s been a shadow candidate since then waiting for demented Joe to quit for health reasons.
“in addition to being corrupt, incompetent and demented, he is a hotheaded bully and a nasty person.”
Biden has all the despicable qualities needed to be the top Democrat.
