My Grandmother used to give it to us for a weekend breakfast, with cornbread or hominy fried in bacon grease :-)

Been investigating some of the work Dr. Ken Berry has done on low-carb diets — keto, ketovore, carnivore. Notably, carnivore centers around red meat and eggs.

“Kippered Herring is wonderful...”

The breakfast places used to serve kippers with scrambled eggs. But no more. I think squeamish patrons objected to the smell. I liked them. With home fries and scrambled eggs.

I don’t guess it is. All I’m seeing are “elderly” cans on etsy or other sites. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in grocery stores...and we had cats for probably 20-22 years (none now though 🙁).

Actually 26.6 ¢/oz = approx. $ 4.26 a pound seems cheap for most any fish aside from tuna.

Canned tuna fish sandwich along with two hard boiled eggs. No mayonnaise. Just add olive oil, soy sauce and black pepper to the tuna. On seeded rye is best and if I have it around. Tomatoes slice if I have it/ For the eggs pour some hot sauce or salsa over them.

Even better is frozen tuna. Defrost tuna and squeeze out water with your hands, and slice up into some soy sauce. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes to marinate. Eat in a bagel or bread. I don’t like cream cheese/ I might add plain yogurt or sour cream, onion and tomato slices/ Black pepper/

Husband and I have watched Ken Berry for a long time. He’s one of the best YouTube docs.

My husband once worked with a woman who claimed she was so allergic to fish that she would go into paroxysms even just smelling it. So, everyone in the office had to forego fish for lunch, or eat it outside.

(My husband called it ‘psychosomatic anaphylaxis’; folks were rather glad when she retired...)

I worked in a pizza joint when I was a kid and very few customers ordered anchovies on there pizza, so I had to give it a try. First bite I thought I had bit into a chunk of salt. I then ate more and loved it.

Sardines, I can take or leave and usually pass on them.

I’m dying for caviar. Have to get the “cheap” stuff...but better than nothing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Went on a picnic once with girl friend a long time ago and among other things she brought were deviled eggs topped with caviar. Fell in love with it then and there.
Paraphrasing you: It ain’t cheap.
