When most people think of the so-called “superfoods” recommended for healthy living, something out of a can doesn’t generally come to mind.
But one expert says there’s a shelf-stable supermarket staple that’s an essential part of every balanced diet — and most of us aren’t eating enough of it. Cans of fatty fish — including sardines, mackerel and anchovies — provide a big boost to brain health, due to high levels of omega-3, Dr. Michael Moseley told the Daily Mail.
“Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid, which means it is vital for our health but, unfortunately, your body can’t produce it, so the only way to get enough of it is through your diet,” Moseley said. He added, “Among other things, it keeps your brain cells healthy and talking to each other.”

add onions and a couple of anchovies
and i am ready for a snog
ladies?
Is this that one neat trick that has doctors hating it?
I eat canned fish regularly, but it’s not superfood, it’s canned fish. Listening to these so-called experts and their propaganda is about the worst thing you can do. “Superfoods” is a term meant to influence morons and separate people from their money on often times useless supplements.
I’m dying for caviar. Have to get the “cheap” stuff...but better than nothing.
I’m afraid if I eat too healthily I’ll step out into the street and get hit by a bus.
love me some sardines! anchovies too
Anchovies are good for a true Caesar salad.
how bout gefilte?
Got to take out a loan for a can of Salmon these days...
Based on trying it 48 years ago when I was 12...
Also my Mom gave me cod liver oil when I was 3 and I think she ruined me on fish for life.
sardines and similar fish are very low on the food chain, and don’t live very long. Accordingly, they do not concentrate mercury in their flesh.
Kippered Herring is wonderful...
They say the Spring catch is the best for caviar.
Smoked Kipper’s (herring) is good for omega 3 and has less mercury than most fish.
My favorite.
That’s good to know.
How long do those cans of sardines and anchovies last?
They are preserved in salt.
