Cabelas lost a $2000 sale yesterday because of their inane gun control. Went to the one closest to me to purchase a thermal rifle scope that cost around $2000. When I entered the store I had my usual conceal carry pistol on me. I noticed a sign saying all weapons must be checked in at customer service. I asked if that included conceal carry and was told yes. There was one couple in front of me so I got behind them. He not only had to surrender his weapon but had to fill out a "20 questions" form. I then decide it wasn't worth it and left since I can buy the same scope om Amazon for the same price.
If it’s ‘concealed’ there is no point in telling them that you have it.....................
I just do tell them. When I carry, it’s very concealed, no print, no peek.
What state are you in? My state allows for concealed carry in any place not prohibited by law, regardless of signage. So unless its a federal building, or a venue that has armed security and metal detectors that everyone must pass through, you can ignore the signs. Cabelas included.
I admire your honesty but, they really don’t need to know.
What state?
BTW, you may have saved yourself throwing money away. $2K for thermal isnt going to buy a whole lot. Better than the <$1K stuff but the better quality thermal and IR optics are going to start above $3K. Buy once, cry once.
If, on the other hand, you're in a state where posted signs do not carry the weight of the law, then 'concealed means concealed' kicks in.
Either way, I'm not going to 'check my iron' at any private business. As an FFL, would Cabela's need to perform a NICS check before returning your firearm?
All weapons? Even pocket knives?
” since I can buy the same scope om Amazon for the same price.”
and much easier return process is something isn’t right ... presumably easier to buy too, since purchase effort is just clicking a button vs driving in traffic, parking, wandering through store, standing in line to checkout, and then unparking, and driving through traffic again ... not even counting the nonsense about concealed carry ...
Why put yourself through the hassle? It’s not like they have TSA like screening at Cabela’s. Don’t ask, don’t tell.
At my local (sort of) Cabelas, you have to check in only weapons that are NOT concealed. Concealed carry is fine with them.
Elisjsha Dicken ignored the no gun sign at his mall. The bad guy with a gun therefore was quite surprised when 15 seconds after he started shooting Dicken got 8 out of ten bullets pumped into said bad guy from 40 yards away. The moral of this story is ignore the signs. The bad guys are counting on nobody else being able to shoot back. The other moral of this story is train to become as awesome a marksman as Elisjsha Dicken!
The Bass Pro in Rockwall/Garland had the same policy years ago. Have not been back.
State please.
I know the manager at my local Cabela’s... Asked about that policy... It is supposed to ONLY be for people who are bringing in arms to be traded/sold/serviced and is NOT supposed to apply to personal carry armaments.
Of course... this may be a recent change now that Bass Pro Shops owns them.
I agree with a lot of commenters saying basically, “Don’t ask, don’t tell.”
That said, if some business even tries to restrict my right to legally carry a firearm — even if I am not at the time — they do NOT need my money. I simply will not go into any business that has any such sign, legally binding or not.
That's my attitude. If there's no metal detector at the door, I carry. If there is I leave, unless it's somewhere I absolutely have to be.
I live in PA and asked the guy and he stated it was for a gun being returned or repaired....
