Finland to step up surveillance in coastal waters after Balticconnector gas pipeline damage

Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen said that the country will increase underwater surveillance in the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea. The statement came after the Balticconnector gas pipeline connecting Finland and Estonia was damaged for an unknown reason.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to Uutissuomalainen.
According to the head of the Finnish Ministry of Defense, a “fast and effective process” will begin in late autumn to strengthen surveillance in the country’s coastal waters.
“The end result will be a common understanding of how we and our allies can improve underwater surveillance in maritime areas. One way to achieve joint defense is to acquire more high-tech surveillance solutions, such as sensors,” he suggested.
Häkkänen noted that he had discussed enhanced underwater surveillance in the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Finland with the NATO Secretary General and the defense ministers of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Nordic countries.
“We need new and more effective ways to monitor underwater events. To do this, governments need the help of private companies and the research community, because gas pipelines and telecommunication cables that run underwater are owned by companies,” he said.

In a phone call with Israeli First Lady Michal Herzog, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska expressed condolences to the victims of the Hamas terrorist attack.
“We feel your pain, the pain of every family in Israel. Ukrainians in all corners of our country express support for the people of Israel, and I want to convey this to you. Our military recorded a video in support of the Israeli people. These and many other manifestations of solidarity confirm how close our peoples are in both joy and sorrow,” Olena Zelenska emphasized.
She noted that as of October 17, 13 Ukrainian citizens were confirmed dead (identification of the bodies is ongoing, the data is changing daily), and a boy whose mother was killed by terrorists was wounded. The child is being provided with medical and psychological assistance. 436 Ukrainian citizens have been evacuated.
The First Lady of Ukraine emphasized that terrorism has no borders. Therefore, it is even more important that countries that oppose it act together. Ukraine consistently stands for peace in the Middle East for all peoples.

Western space satellites being used to aid Ukrainian forces could become legitimate targets for Russian strikes, the Foreign Ministry in Moscow warned. Speaking to reporters, the ministry’s director for nonproliferation and arms control, Vladimir Ermakov, claimed that the US and its allies are helping Ukraine in ways which go “beyond the harmless use of space technologies.”
“Obviously, the United States and its allies are not fully aware that such activities actually constitute indirect participation in armed conflicts,” Ermakov stated. He cautioned that Western “quasi-civilian infrastructure” in space could “quite logically become the targets of a retaliatory strike.”
Funding for commercial satellite imagery services was included in a $1.2 billion US military assistance package for Ukraine approved in May. Images obtained from commercial satellites were believed to have been used by Kiev to launch missile attacks on the Russian city of Sevastopol in Crimea last month. Ermakov argued that the West had exposed space activities and socio-economic processes on Earth to “unjustified risks,” and stressed the need to preserve space for research and peaceful purposes. To that end, the diplomat announced that Russia had submitted draft resolutions on space technologies and promoting peace to the UN General Assembly’s First Committee, which deals with disarmament issues.
“We call for a refusal to use civilian space infrastructure for undeclared purposes, including for interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states and participation in armed conflicts,” Ermakov said.
South Africa would also prefer to go dry than accept help from Israel.
There aren’t enough Ukrainian men of fighting age left to form ‘five new brigades’,so this would be the geriatric or adolescent males or perhaps Unite States army the Ukrainians are planning to ‘use’.
No - it’s just flat out lies. The last offensive failed, the money is drying up, the fighting shifts to Israel. Of course, Biden will try to dump the last American dollar in a ditch in the Ukraine, and Zelensky will try to spill every last drop of Ukrainian blood before the elites behind this proxy war all retire to wealthy/mansions/luxury.

Ukraine used the ATACMS missiles today, which have destroyed an entire helicopter base in Berdyansk just hours ago. Russian sources describe it as the single greatest loss of aircraft in the war, and the Russians are furious over the missile’s use. Ukraine has defeated the main Russian offensive at Avdiivka, according to MOD sources. which state that the Russians will enter an “active defense,” around the city. This means Ukraine has acheived a victory.
