I’m 36 and Covered in Tattoos — I Regret Them All
New York Post ^ | April 28, 2023 | Emily Lefroy

That’s the message a Virginia lifestyle blogger is sharing on TikTok as she admits at 36 that she “regrets” the tattoos she chose in her 20s.

“They just don’t match who I am now and my girly/feminine aesthetic,” Sara, whose user name is @SaraOvershares, explained in a caption of a TikTok she posted last month.

In the clip, which has drawn 1.8 million views, the creator-turned-marketer likens her intricate ink to clothing you can’t change out of — even if your style evolves. “Imagine if you will, you put a shirt on once when you were in your 20s, and now you have to wear that for the rest of your life,” she reasoned.

She needs to consult with Dr. Turlington ASAP. He's been in business a long time.

Much of this began right around when Angelina Jolie flashed her tats.

“They may have reflected a moment in time in my 20s, maybe a moment in time that I was like not doing so well mentally”

When I see a heavily tatted person, mental issues immediately come to mind.

Sad.

Or dye your hair or grow your hair long or get a mullet.

The irony of tattoos is that these people are trying so hard to be nonconformist that they become conformists.

there are lots of things that you do for which you do not perceive any long term consequences.

You're spot on in your comment.

Having those tattoos is very akin to a woman who is stuck with the SAME hairstyle, long after its gone out of style, for ALL of her natural life.

SORRY!... NO makeover or do over for her!

Not at all. Actually they were discouraged by the brass. They used to warn us we could be brought up on charges of "destruction of government property" if we got any visible ones. This was early 1980s.

Sure, some Marines got them. Usually in town after a night of heavy drinking and carousing. Oceanside, CA (near where I was stationed) had tattoo parlors.

“I’ve never seen anybody’s looks improved by a tattoo.”

Agreed. I often observe that the person would look a LOT better if he/she spent the hours in the gym instead of hours getting ink. You would look great, feel great, saved a ton of money, feel proud of how you look, be attractive to the opposite sex and, if you get tired of the gym, you can quit without permanent scars.

I see them as a form of self abuse. Just like cutting but more socially acceptable at this time.

As we degrade into barbarism I think lampshades. Although with the direction we are going probably skinsuits would be closer to the mark.

Macabre off

“she admits at 36 that she “regrets” the tattoos she chose in her 20s.”

The one thing about a tattoo that I always disliked was it’s permanence. When I looked at all the decisions I was constantly having to undo in my youth it wasn’t hard to remain tattoo free.

I learned that getting tattoos can become very addictive. It’s strange the range of things that can be addictive. I’m closely familiar with a few.

“Not marriage material anymore.”

Except to another loser covered in tats. She probably has recently discovered that truism.

How much do you think it would cost to have them removed with a laser?

Thousands of dollars.

See my post #20 above this one.

Maturity with age is a case against tattoos, chemical castration and delusion affirming surgical mutilation

Your post #17 says it ALL in one simple sentence!

One side consequence for these totally-tattooed folks is that the in-laws won't keep visiting them (if they ever get any in-laws).
