Agree, have a friend with MS that was able to work for a few hours a day. Wasn’t a slacker or trying to take advantage of anything. Simply wanted to continue a lifelong career until being unable to do so.
As best I can tell, they are on The Disability because they hired a lawyer. I only know 1 person who was granted Disability without a lawyer and he got it on the first try. He got hurt at work years ago so they did the paperwork when he got close to retirement.
This is a Low COL area so lots of people are on it because you can afford to live on it but it still almost requires a side-hustle. But you are still being paid to live in poverty and you are most likely to vote for the people who keep you there.

Yep, many disabilities are unseen- the person loks fine, but they aren’t- not by a long shot. Ms is one condition where it’s not obvious unless you know the person and know they get wiped out easily, to the point thst they are in bed for a few days as they recover, or you see them when their conditions flare up. When a person’s condition flares up, they usual,y have to stay home, and only go,out when it subsides and they feel and look better, and that is the only time folks see them and so they think that there is nothing wrong with them.
Folks don’t see the person that they think is OK when that person gets home and collapses and is useless for a few days as they recover. They just see the person doi g somehting like mowing their lawn, raking leaves or whatever and conclude that they are fine and shouldn’t be on disability.
On the other hand, I’ve known people like a fella in our town who got disability because he lost 1/2 a thumb. He is able to,work at his side hustle all day long every day practically though, then go out partying at night. OtHers that clam that they are so depressed that they can’t deal with people, yet tHey are out and about interacting with people just fine. Oabama’s “disabled people” get their disability check and walk a block and cash it and buy drugs with it.
Those who are really sick get screwed because tHe system wants to make room for more druggie and welfare dropouts t keep,getting paid.

It often does take a lawyer because it is hard for the legit disabled to get on it, but not hard for slackers to,get on apparently, after Obama opened the doors for them. Often there is “back pay” invovled where a truly,disabled person has been suffering financially for years because they couldn’t keep,up with a full time job, yet they kept trying to work because they saw no other alternative, and Hey suffered because of it, physically and financially. Lawyers will negotiate based on issues like that.
But yeah, a lot of people game the system for sure, and th3 gov gets them on it and keeps,them tied to it so,they can keep getting votes like you said.
Lepage in Maine passed a law where welfare people who,were able bodied had to work to “earn” their welfare checks. Wow did he people howl and gnash their teeth. Disability is different of course, but oabama opened the door to many who were perfectly capable of holding down full time jobs, while,making it tougher for truly disabled to keep their disability.

I have a family member on it. They are on it because they refused the treatment to help them. I think people are lured in by the promise of free money but don’t recognize that they can’t afford to live on it until they are on it. It’s why we have so many yard workers, car detailers, handymen and general laborers. Any paid work that the government doesn’t know about. Bidenflation pushed even more into the light.
