The federal trial of David DePape, the California man accused of attacking Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul at the couple’s San Francisco home last year, will begin on Oct. 23.
The detail emerged Wednesday as DePape – clad in an orange jumpsuit and shackled at the knees – made a federal court appearance in San Francisco.
At the hearing, DePape’s lawyer said he is planning to file a change of venue motion in the coming weeks, which will be followed up by a hearing in May, according to Fox News’ Claudia Cowan.
Federal prosecutors also told a judge that the defense now has all the discovery in the case.
DePape has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of assaulting an immediate family member of a federal official and attempted kidnapping of a federal officer.
If convicted, he faces 30- and 20-year prison terms, respectively.

DePape will be offered money through an intermediary to accept a plea deal.
DePape gets rich, and Paul Pelosi can go back to cruisin’ and boozin’.

The trial will start almost exactly a year after the attack. That is a 'speedy trial' compared to the Jan. 6ers.

He physically attacked a prominent Democrat.

It will be out of the way well before the Nov 2024 election, but more importantly many, many months before Trump’s NY state trial.
I say he will be made an offer he cannot refuse and cuts a deal beforehand.

Why is this a “federal” trial? Is California devoid of state laws against assault???
As POTUS I would recommend Congress void all federal laws that have their counterparts in the laws of the states. That should free up many federal courts and allow for the firing of many federal prosecutors.
You do realize that you are asking a gaggle of lawyers to put another gaggle of lawyers out of work?
