My daughter likes hummus, but I really don’t care for it much. Even when I was a fattie.
Thanks everybody!
You will get plenty of protein.
I use pea protein and like it just fine. Whey made me a little bloated.
Stomach virus several years ago wrecked my innards. I’ve only eaten once a day since 2015. Sometimes going 2-3 days without
Stroke 2 years ago took out my taste buds, so hard to find anything that tastes right

I look like I’ve been in Auschwitz and feel like it to
Been vegetable gardening for 60 years, but I don’t have enough energy left to do it right now
Forget the cheap Walmart-type crap...

I spent a total of 40 years bodybuilding (quit, ten years ago, when I was 79) and have used everything: powders, stimulants, chemicals, Anabolic-androgenic steroids, and injectable steroids...
Hi, digger48-!
New to the protein powder world, so my suggestion may be laughed at.... will not take offense if it is laughed at.
PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter
After being ill for years I found out I was gluten intolerant and probably lactose intolerant (we’ve yet to test for that).
That said, it was my new trainer who suggested PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter because I also battle IBS. Sigh. How many ways could I eat and anything and NOT be affected?? Right???
So. After months of putting it off, I ordered the PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter with Cocoa.
I really should have listened to my trainer, months ago.
Years ago someone tried to get me on Protein shakes and they made me violently ill. This does not nor does it clump up. Yea!
And there’s no heavy taste to the Peanut Butter. I actually use it in Hot Teas and Oatmeal. It helps with the carbs and allows me to function without feeling hungry or filling bloated. Double yea!
Just my two cents.
Good luck on your research!
Powdered PB?
That’s a new one to me
Bone broth is an excellent source of protein with very few associated calories, and is recommended as a ‘first course’ for anyone whose been fasting.
Eggs are an excellent source of protein with hard boiled being the best way to maximize nutrient absorbsion.
Grass fed lean meats are also protein rich, the less processed the better.
However, these approaches are for people who are either trying to lose weight or perhaps more appropriately trying to lose body fat, and it doesn’t sound like that’s what your trying to accomplish.
Lot’s of good suggestions here digger!
Your protein intake should be how many grams per lean mass muscle weight. You do not need to overdo protein intake. If you’re not lifting for mass then a small to medium size glass of protein mix is all you need. I highly recommend Ensure w/max protein. It has the proteins you need plus all the vitamins and minerals. It has 30 g of protein per container. That should be all you need on top of a well-balanced healthy diet.
All the protein powder that you buy in a can has no nutritional value.
Is proteinuria an issue? High protein diets can cause renal hyperfiltration which puts stress on your kidneys. Plant based protein is less likely to do this.
This is a recommended diet for nephrotic syndrome, but you should make sure that it works for whatever CKD you are dealing with:

Eggs, cheese and fatty fish like salmon. Or Ancient Nutrition grass fed bone broth. Alex Jones has a really tasty high protein bone broth shake mix on Infowars store. It’s really good.
Or peanut butter powder, or just peanut butter.
Beans are good too. Especially pintos.
Protein powders are hard on the kidneys. The evidence is in blood tests. Overloading kidney function is easily detected.
Ripple is very good.
Also OWYN.
I use both.
Could you elaborate on what the stomach virus did to you, perhaps, what it appears to have hurt?
In your situation best to follow the advice of your doctor.
Have you tried kefir to normalize our gut bacteria? SamAdams76 is right about the eggs, salmon, poultry, and cheese. You have to eat real food even if you are not hungry. I drink a short glass of kefir nearly every night.
