Because they’re good? I’m sorry, I’m German so I don’t understand the reason why you would not like them.

I’m making a pork, sauerkraut goulash with Spaetzles , it’s a Hungarian dish this New Year’s Day. Side of greens. Lentils on New Year’s Eve. Italian dish. Need all the good luck we can get!

When I was a kid, I hated sauerkraut, now I have to put it on a hot dog.

pork chops and sauerkraut are traditional holiday dishes, especially on New Year’s Day.

Never in my family. It was always spam and baked beans for Christmas dinner and the same for each day thereafter until we ran out.

That’s one of the very few ways I’ll eat cabbage.

Vundabar! Don't forest a nice arugula or romaine salad with a few sliced tomatoes. Throw about ten cloves of garlic with those boiled potatoes for a wonderful flavor lift. Mash them all together. Happy new year....

Very good. Excellent in fact. That’s the way God designed it to be.

That’s incredible.

Could’ve been a cheesecake, the look of the “crust”.

I just finished a casserole of goulash with spaetzle. I made it with some paprika paste that I found at a local Romanian delicatessen.

Notice all the replies denigrating this in various ways.

Meanwhile post about Italian and Cajun and Irish stuff, you’ll get nothing but praise and accolades and “respect” for the tradition.

We get no respect, including the fact Germans are still THE #1 non-English immigrant group in the US all time. No one knows that. I guess cuz Germans don’t too their own horns.

Making Olliebollen as we speak

I’m partial to spicy mustard with my kraut.
Must be that southern/Bavarian thread in my bloodline.

Hallo, Servus!

My mom said that their tradition (Polish) was that whatever you ate on New Year’s Day was how you were going to live the rest of the year.

If you ate chicken or turkey, you’d have to scratch for a living.

But people feed pigs, so if you ate pork, you would be provided with what you need.
