Vietnam's Lê Thành, the self-proclaimed 'King of VGA,' is having some fun on Facebook(opens in new tab) (via I_Leak_VN(opens in new tab)). In photos and videos shared on the social media site, it looks like the store has started to use street trader tactics to grab passersby and sell them GPUs by the kilo.

Lê Thành shared pictures of dozens of used GPUs stacked up on the curbside in a clear parody of a Vietnamese street food stall. There is also a video with the vendor patiently waving away flies with a net, awaiting passersby. Then, a scooter stops, and the rider buys a bundle of GPUs after the seller weighs them, then drives off with them in a flimsy red takeaway bag. Other photos show the street seller waving used GPUs at scooter riders in the street. Moreover, there are stacks and stacks of GPUs shown in Lê Thành's shop, with all the major brands represented.

There has been plenty of talk about graphics card oversupply in the post-Ethereum GPU mining era. Indeed, we have seen consumer graphics card prices slide since this tech event. Even leading up to the death of GPU mining, the crypto business was running out of steam as coin valuations dropped precipitously, and recessionary forces started to grip the world. The widespread ending of pandemic-related lockdowns didn't do consumer electronic sales any favors, as did the squeeze on disposable income due to rising energy prices.

Graphics processing unit - the specialized processor used on graphics cards to do the math intensive production of the pixel array that is projected on the screen.

GPUs are noted for being on the graphics cards added to gaming PCs.

Due to their ability to do arithmetic at high rates, they are also used for cryptographic algorithm processing, including for bitcoin mining.

I visited Singapore in 2013 on business (They were big time subsidizing Aerospace back then). To this day, it is still the most expensive city I have ever visited.

The Taxi ride from the airport was surprisingly cheap, however. (further, but cheaper than a Taxi from DFW to my house).

Got to talking with my Taxi driver. He was about 40 and had been an electrical Engineer for Seagate, but all the Manufacturing went to Viet Nam and they closed the plants in Singapore.

These people are learning life lessens in Globalism.

I’m gonna kinda hijack a thread. Not directed at anyone in particular, just looking for opinions. I’m thinking about buying a new computer. I don’t game, but I stream a pretty good bit. Would buying a computer with a GPU be beneficial?

Yes. GPUs are also very good for video hardware encoding.

But you don’t need top of the line. A mid range last generation card will do fine.

I put NVIDIA GPU cards in all of our home computers.

Even a low end dedicated GPU card will usually give you much better graphics than the typical on-board GPU chips that come on most motherboards.
