Germany, Nigeria to sign accord on return of Benin Bronzes

Germany and Nigeria are set to venture into an agreement to pave way for the return of centuries-old sculptures known as the Benin Bronzes that were taken from Africa in the 19th century and displayed in German museums and elsewhere.

Governments and museums in Europe and North America have increasingly sought to resolve ownership disputes over objects looted during colonial times.

A British colonial expedition stole the bas-relief Bronzes along with many other treasures in 1897 from the royal palace of the Kingdom of Benin, in what's now southern Nigeria.

The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, an authority that oversees many of Berlin's museums, announced last year that it was beginning formal negotiations on returning pieces that are in its collection.

Most of the Benin bronzes are in the British Museum as war booty, but some were sold off and ended up in German museums. The British dare not start returning their museum pieces to the origininating countries or their galleries would soon be stripped bare by a multitude of claims. The Germans are subject to a different set of calculations, which may well include Nigeria giving access to other artistic and cultural works and various commercial deals for German firms.

“They’ll be on Ebay next week.”

I’ve already received an email from a highly-placed Nigerian official offering to sell one to me at a reduced price. I’ve signaled back that I’m very interested. Awaiting his reply...

I expect the only reason Britain doesn’t have a perfect score is the other 23 countries didn’t exist as sovereign entities while Britain was building/still had an empire.
But there’s still time!

He has since contacted me and asked me to help since he is in a sensitive government position he has asked that you just send the money to me and then he'll send you the bronzes. I'll send you an email where to send the money.
