A nation that alters its history to fit current imaginary social constructs is doomed.
This week, Nikole Hannah-Jones of the 1619 Project tweeted, "Black people posed a danger to the country's idea of itself; they held up a mirror into which the nation preferred not to peer. So the inhumanity visited on Black people by every generation of white America justified the inhumanity of the past and the inequality of the present." She added, "The North did not fight the Civil War to end slavery."
At the start of the Civil War, she was, technically correct. The Union Army was just that: an army raised to preserve the United States. However, on January 1, 1863, President Lincoln changed the context of the war with the Emancipation Proclamation. For the next three years, the North was fighting to put an end to the institution of slavery and to bring the rebel states back into the fold. Let's not forget that the South initiated the secession because of the fear that President Lincoln and the North would abolish slavery in the first place.
This isn't the first attempt by the Progressives to rewrite our history. Most of these instances, such as the one above, are laughable — at least on the surface. Conservatives tend to view them with scorn. Instances like this latest tweet are glossed over and mocked. Yet they are out there, propagating a twisted narrative.
What is that narrative? The United States was never a great country. It was built by slaves and other oppressed people. It was flawed from its inception. Our country's iconic heroes such as Washington, Jackson, Jefferson, and others should be cast down because they owned slaves. Capitalism is a system of racial and social oppression that, by its nature, makes it corrupt and evil.

The left has to change history to fit its false reality.
A central theme of “1984” is that totalitarian governments try to change the past.
The North did not fight the Civil War to end slavery.
The Republican Party was founded to end slavery.
Why didn't (and don't) all those oppressed people build an "America" in the crap places they came from?
The left has to change history to fit its false reality.

That, and many of the other “oppressed people” were whites. The Irish come to mind. Not that the real history matters to these people.
Not only change it, but destroy the positive aspects & achievements of the past, including any reference to it.
Amazing how this person has so much influence and authority.
I remember when Shelby Foote stated that the Civil War was not about slavery and he was greeted hisses from the left.
That is an interesting comment.
I read the Republican Party was founded to prevent slaves from entering into U.S. territories and competing with free white labor.
The slaves that could not leave Alabama and go into Oregon were still slaves in Alabama.
Didn't a lot of Republicans vote for the Corwin Amendment, or am I thinking of something else?
.
“However, on January 1, 1863, President Lincoln changed the context of the war with the Emancipation Proclamation.”
And afterward, Lincoln added another slave state to the Union.
That is why I usually avoid the American Thinker.
Republican Party was founded to oversee the industrialization of the USA and the South didn’t want to play.
This is a fact.
We never initiate these conversations. We get on with our lives.
Therefore we will always react to the latest drive by charge and defend ourselves.
Time to initiate our own.
Start the conversation with the democrats being the party of lynchings and Jim Crow. Republicans were formed to end slavery and bring freedom with civil rights.
Then you inform our critics that Al Gore voted against the civil rights act. Don’t tell them which Al Gore. Would they feel comfortable explaining it wasn’t the global warmer activist who rides around on his private jet?
but the emancipation proclamation only freed the slaves in the states that were in rebellion. which really didn’t free those slaves unless the south lost.
Both sides tend to rewrite history when it is to their advantage.
So you gotta shout them down the way a Michael Savage does. Problem is like the Justice Brothers. He’s out for himself.
Be sure to thank Nimrata Randhawa for getting this history erasing ball rolling.
