Days after Spotify announced on that it is granting Neil Young’s wish and removing the singer-songwriter’s music from the platform, an online rumor began to spread that Barry Manilow will be following suit.
However, as of Friday (Jan. 28), the 78-year-old star’s music is still on Spotify, and he took to Twitter to address the situation. “I recently heard a rumor about me and Spotify,” he tweeted. “I don’t know where it started, but it didn’t start with me or anyone who represents me.”

The anti Joe Rogan cancel culture astroturf.
did he get SWATed?
I think someone missed the point entirely - it, I believe, was supposed to be sarcastic - like ‘who is the next ‘huge’ star that is going to boycott Spotify?
it was a slam of Neil Young to compare him with Manilow - i.e. two aging rock stars who probably get very little listens from the typical Spotify users, using their ‘stardom’ to pressure Spotify to do something.
At least that is how I read it.
That makes sense. Barry Manilow was never one to lead the charge on these sorts of things. Someone started the rumor because it was a funny idea. Say what you want about the man (and he has his issues), he knew how to effortlessly write a catchy tune.
He could also pull off horrifically over-the-top lyrics:
“I made it through the rain,
and found myself respected by
the others who . . .
got rained on too . . .
and made it through!”
Probably just Neil Diamond or ABBA trying to cause trouble.
Whomever thought to put milk-toast Manilow with poopstain-Young is a comedy genius.
I have read that Barry Manilow has wanted to retire for years, but his agent keeps pushing him to do more concerts.
If that’s true, all Barry has to do is stop performing.
I have heard of this with many up in age performers.
Maybe they get too used to following directions and become a slave to their habit of compliance.
Pat Benatar, one of the Tough Gals of the 1980’s. I’ve heard it said about her.
Manilow is a helluvan entertainer and a decent guy. I’m really glad it was another lie. He never struck me as the type to get into that stuff.
Twitterverse: Barry Manilow doesn’t speak for Barry Manilow
It was a Twitter rumor - caveat emptor.
Most of his hits were actually composed by others.
Lol- Barry throws Neil under the bus.
Whoever started it is exceptionally funny. ‘ I get it ‘ and chuckled out loud.
“it was a slam of Neil Young to compare him with Manilow - i.e. two aging rock stars who probably get very little listens from the typical Spotify users...”
Barry Manilow and Rock Music do not intersect.
Barry puts on a good show. He is not an SJW.
