I think someone missed the point entirely - it, I believe, was supposed to be sarcastic - like ‘who is the next ‘huge’ star that is going to boycott Spotify?
it was a slam of Neil Young to compare him with Manilow - i.e. two aging rock stars who probably get very little listens from the typical Spotify users, using their ‘stardom’ to pressure Spotify to do something.
At least that is how I read it.
“it was a slam of Neil Young to compare him with Manilow - i.e. two aging rock stars who probably get very little listens from the typical Spotify users...”
Barry Manilow and Rock Music do not intersect.
I think you are 100% correct.
I would however add that Neil Young and Barry Manilow were major artists in the 1970s. Forget their politics, personal lives or whatever. They sold records particularly Manilow and were well known. The fact that today’s generation that grew up on 1990s forgettable slop doesn’t know who they are doesn’t mean much.
