The Dayton Board of Zoning Appeals has approved the city's request to demolish a 129-year-old historic building that once was the site of the Wright brothers' first bike shop.

The city wants to tear down the site because the building has deteriorated to a point where it can no longer be maintained and redeveloped, the Dayton Daily News has reported. Public safety concerns have also been raised by some who fear the building could collapse.

Sometimes an obsession is just that...an obsession.

Who the hell even knew the Wright Brothers had a bike shop.

This building was NOT made to last forever.

Put a sign on the property and be done with it.

Surely they realize that airline travel is part of systematic racism and the site should be destroyed?????

Wright Brothers ... weren’t two white brothers

tear it down!

Why do white people have to go and invent everything and not leave anything for BIPOCs to invent?

Of course, the Wright Brothers were white and wanted to invent an airplane before black people in Africa could tell the world they had done it centuries earlier.

The shop that the brothers owned when they flew was actually taken down, along with their home, and rebuilt up in Dearborn Michigan at Ford’s Greenfield Village. You can walk through them and see it how it was during that period of use. If this building had any value, I am sure old Henry would have scooped it up as well.

Sounds like Dayton missed its opportunity years ago; at least the Wright Bros. got the back of the Ohio quarter.

Anyone who has read more than 5 minutes worth of history on the subject of the Wright Brothers.

"This building was NOT made to last forever. Put a sign on the property and be done with it."

The "Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park" building is at the other end of the block; it appears to be vacante also. Like most of the buildings on this street.

Give the bricks and lumber to the Amish. They'll put them to good use. Then put up the "Biden Free Vax Clinic"; and Dayton can be back in the "Free Government Money" business. They sure look like they're losing money on W. Third St.

I saw all the Wright Brothers shop good stuff on display in the Smithsonian Museum of Aviation.

All the drawings, the various jigs and templates were there on display. The good stuff is safe in the Smithsonian for everybody to see

Wright Brothers, phooey!

Otto Lilienthal was flying gliders in 1891 (up to over 1,000’ in height).

https://www.famousinventors.org/otto-lilienthal

Gustave Whitehead pioneered powered flight (in Connecticut) and first flew on August 14, 1901 - this was while the Wright Bros. were fiddling with bicycles and almost two years before their flight in NC.

http://gustavewhitehead.info/about-gustave-whitehead/

Why the cover-up?

The Smithsonian Institution has the Wright Flyer ON LOAN from a British museum in perpetuity UNLESS another person/institution was found to have flown (powered) prior...

The Smithsonian will not even - honestly - investigate Gustav Whitehead.
