I think others may have this problem. Perhaps together we may devise a way to solve this.
In short, I mailed our federal tax forms, 1040 for 2020 on May 17, 2021. To date, the IRS site tells me they have not processed our forms. Then, the paragraph reads: "The due date has passed. If you've already filed, processing usually takes 21 days (electronic returns) or six weeks (paper returns). If you still need to file, submit your tax return along with any payment due as soon as possible to minimize potential penalties and interest. If you’ve been affected by a recent disaster, learn about the most recent tax relief provisions to know your options."
I have heard that they are way behind due to no one working in the offices.
I have no way of knowing if they've received the forms. I've seen that should not call, nor refile. Is there any way of checking to find out anything?
Oh! I have a refund due.
Keep calling until you get an answer
Why didn’t you file electronically?
I mailed my 2020 form at around the same time. I then got a notice early August that my form was too damaged to process. I re-filed mid-August and then got my return mid-September. They are overloaded incompetent idiots, as they lost my 2019 return.
I had a similar problem last year. E-filed, and then got a notice that I owed penalties and interest even though I had the cancelled check back.
Took several weeks of phone calls to get them to acknowledge the error.
Persistence eventually did pay off though.
You can call your representative in Congress and they could provide constituent services. Another option is to contact the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate in the IRS, they have probably fielded a lot of similar complaints given the IRS’s backlog. The Advocate’s role is to assist taxpayers when having troubles with the IRS bureaucracy.
The revenuers is a jobs program for the unemployable.
My business partner was there a month ago. DT fed bldg. Hates going there and we had to toss a coin for this bogus trip. Told me the entire office, the receptionist was the only dude in there, I kid you not. Dont bother calling either as you have a better chance to score with any Victoria’s Secret model than getting thru.
They had no problem cashing my check
I filed mine electronically March 21st. Received my refund mid-August.
I told him if it's not the last minute I don't worry about it.
I never get in a rush to give the government my hard earned money.
Given the present state of the USPS, I would not mail any important item without tracking and possibly a signature. Yes, its expensive. Without it you have zero to stand on.
“They had no problem cashing my checkl”
The local government cashes checks before the ink dries. You have to feel for anyone who “kites” on them.
I didn’t file electronically because I have a some forms they don’t accept electronically. At least that is my guess. The bottom line is that I tried and the file was rejected. I was told to mail it in.
The Advocate’s Office has some really great people in it. They helped me clear up a huge past-due filing fee bill for a small PTA that failed to file returns for years. I rebuilt their books and filed on their behalf to stop the bleeding, then went to battle with the IRS.
Literally, the young lady there saved them from losing all the money the PTA had raised for things like books, trips, the Science Expo, and after school club support.
I thought Uncle Sam was going to grab it all, some $16,000.
Word to the wise, every corporation needs to file a tax return, even non or not for profits. Every day your return is late, fines accrue.
After I got them straightened out, they never missed the deadline again.
House passes bill suspending nation’s debt limit
Money is about to flow , it’s not going to be worth anything there will be lots
Thank you. I will begin doing that. I didn’t, for some oversight on my part, even think of that.
The V.S model does not float my boat. And, boy!, is my husband glad about that.
