Another plaintiff, Bren Sheriff, who has lived for nearly 50 years in the South Shore neighborhood near Jackson Park, told me that the center was initially marketed as a presidential library. But after obtaining the lease to build in Jackson Park, the foundation changed course and decided to build a private entity with no official connection to the National Archives. According to Sheriff, many south-siders have been misled into believing that the POP lawsuit is an attempt by white people to stop President Obama from building his presidential library.
Second, construction of the OPC in the wooded parkland of Jackson Park will require the destruction of hundreds of mature, carbon-sequestering trees, contributing to the existential problem of global climate change. Mitchell believes more than a thousand trees will ultimately be destroyed in and around the park, many of which are more than 100 years old. The alternative plan near Washington Park does not require destruction of any mature trees, according to Balkany. Another environmental concern is that the placement of a 20-story tower so close to the lake will endanger migratory birds that fly north and south close to the western edge of Lake Michigan. The Washington Park site is farther west and is believed to pose less risk to migrating birds.
Third, the Jackson Park site is not easily accessed by public transportation, meaning that visitors would mostly come by vehicle. In contrast, the Washington Park site is situated right on the CTA Green Line. Further, the Jackson Park plan calls for the closing of two major roads - Cornell Drive and the southern half of the historic Midway Plaisance - necessitating a rerouting of traffic and the widening of Lake Shore Drive and Stony Island Avenue...

Be innovative...build it underground.
“Hussein isn’t worried about the birds nor the planet. How about that.”
Nor the little people he inconveniences. He’s too busy having his ass kissed by Springsteen, Oprah and DiCaprio.
Like all things Obama this is a lie and screwup from the start. Like obamacare it will only get worse.
‘… a private entity with no official connection to the National Archives.’
This sounds like something that’s not a presidential library. Wonder what they’re really planning.
Chicago had rules in place preventing the kind of building he is having done and they ignored them all for Barack, just as he ignored masks mandates for his birthday party. I saw an article over at Breitbart about that and how the White House is actually defending that “WH Defending Obama Birthday Bash Typical of the Left — ‘Rules for Thee and Not for Me’”, which you can find there, so give that a look. The left think their ‘stuff’ doesn’t stink, but it does.
I am wondering, how many visitors will go there.
Most presidential libraries are rather small venues, with few visitors. What makes Obama thinking that he would be different?
LOL...
Jackson Park (Chicago) is named for Andrew Jackson, the great friend of Black people and Seminole Indians everywhere!
Build it on the Moon,
Boobs like Obama, Biden, Who inhabit the closed world of sicko liberal privilege show the onerous life under King George that precipitated a revolution.
Correct. This is not a presidential library at all, it is a Stalinist monument and cultural monstrosity. They intend it to be a center of leftwing political subversion. The plan destroys much of the site of the 1893 Columbian Exposition, which was a celebration of an ascendant America, and that as much as anything may be the reason for the adamant insistence of the Obama scum to have their way.

Use of the Jackson Park site puts a remarkably ugly building in the middle of an unexpectedly attractive green space (an Olmstead-designed park) which is unusually attractive for the South Side of Chicago.
Use of the nearby Washington Park site rehabilitates some wasted urban real estate on the edge of a more mundane park, but that building would border a reasonably-scary ghetto neighborhood.
So I suspect public relations is as much a part of this scam as anything - if one had a mind to (can’t see why), one could visit such a building in Jackson Park without worrying too much about getting jumped (just as tens of thousands visit the Museum of Science and Industry there); I wouldn’t say the same about a visit to something located at the periphery of Washington Park.
So right, Liz.
When the next revolution has ended and the Truth of the Clinton-Obamma criminal enterprise is fully revealed their “Libraries” will be razed to the ground.
Yep, they sure do. They want to develop leaders there.
I guess they don’t want to scare the widdle BLM snowflakes by exposing them to the baddest part of town, or by making it easy for the climate change activists to actually—gasp—use energy-saving public transportation!
On another note, it is reported that “residents were directed to voice their concerns in small breakout groups.” This is a tactic the Left teaches people to use. They seed the small groups; they probably ensured the dissenters were is separate groups which had been “seeded” with those they call change agents.
The author asked the Obama team for comment, and they declined. They have no defense for what they are trying to do (so typical of the Left!). This seems all around like yet another terrible thing.
And with his millions, and with the gazillions the O Foundation has, they want to have a 90-year lease for $10. How disgusting.
