Professor Valentina Zharkova has an excellent presentation of her research on youtube of course. It is about two hours long and if you have interest, some background in science and the attention span exceeding several gerbils it is a very good watch.
The presentation is at least 3 years old so this is not news. Her research shows a convincing correlation between the Sun’s magnetic field and sunspot activity both as a predictor and non-visual indicator as I recall.
This solar activity minima is somewhat tempered by a 500 year cycle in Earth’s elliptical orbit of the sun being in close approach. The result, again if memory serves correct, is more violent swings between summer and winter. Deeper winters and longer with short intense summers.
The Sun and volcanic activity make man’s efforts feeble by comparison.
I don’t know about you, but it seems to me this past winter has been six months long.

Could you explain better? There are a lot of fossils found in coal.
I have a fossilized tree trunk that is grade three coal (It will burn, but really poorly.). There used to be a store in West Va that sold fossils found in coal, most were just leaf imprints, but the store had plenty of stumps and logs.
