They are responsible for security of the members of Congress, and for the House of Representatives part of the Capitol. The shooting took place at the entrance of the Speaker’s Lobby, which they might view as a last line of defense. The Sergeant of Arms and his deputies wear suits, and are armed.
He might possibly be Secret Service, because the Speaker is third in line to the Presidency, but I doubt that.

For the past 3 months we’ve had Antifa attack the Federal court building in Portland over and over and over, firebombing it regularly WITH people in the building, tearing down windows, THREE MONTHS, not one of them got so much as a smack on the wrist. No, instead we had scumrags like Nancy Pelosi calling the cops “Storm troopers” for trying to defend it as if the cops were Nazis for not allowing them to destroy the building.
