Jack stands are vital safety items for any work you do underneath your car, which is why the Harbor Freight Tools jack stand recall was such a big deal. Many of you may have their jack stands in your garage right now. Unfortunately for one Harbor Freight customer, a replacement for his warrantied-out three-ton jack stands failed, too
Mike Galli was about to do some maintenance work on his Volkswagen Golf using the replacements he got for his recalled Harbor Freight jack stands. As soon as the full weight of the car was lowered onto the stands, he heard a loud pop from the base of one jack stand splitting apart.

Sorry I use a torque wrench daily and that story is bullshit.
But of course you read it so its got to be true.....
SK Tools brought there manufacturing back to the United States several years ago.
They are nearly professional quality at a very affordable price.
Pretty much anything from a chain auto parts store or Home Depot/Lowes is decent. Still China but 10 times better than HF.
There’s just not much made in the USA any more. We can’t compete globally for cheap stuff with the likes of China, India etc.
Thanks for the Harry Epstein tip. My favorite place to buy tools are farm auctions.
If I end up needing to buy some PRC made crap I’ll get it from China Freight and pay closer to Chinese prices rather than pay up for an American company to slap its label on PRC made crap.
SK tools are still made in the US. They’re more expensive than Harbor Freight wrenches, but are stupendously better.
Mrs.Lucky bought me a set of SK socket wrenches for my birthday the 1st year we were married. Almost 50 years later, they’re good as new (and I’ve used ‘em hard)
Maybe the welder was using a Harbor Freight welder to weld. LOL
A better design would be a mechanical interlock then welded up some.

I think that was a big problem with the Twin Tower design. [I agree that a fire around a jack stand is a whole different situation.]
Ping.
You no like weld? No weld for you.
I have a pretty old set of HF impact sockets that are stamped “JAPAN”.
Workin’ Still!
My brother owns an excavating and paving company. They use Harbor Freight wrenches and other hand tools on the jobsite. The tools routinely get buried with whatever else that is going in the ground.
I have bought good used American made tools (MAC, SK, Snap-on, Proto) on eBay for a reasonable price.
No, when I worked in downtown KC I would sometimes walk up there. I know there were old tools, but not which ones. Oh well.
Never looked at the stamping on any I have. Figured all of it was Chinese takeout.
I would have thought a couple of rusty vintage jeeps would have been the end of a few HF sockets.
I have a set of Walker jack stands that I have had for many years. They were pricey but well worth the money if I am depending on them to hold up a vehicle I am working on underneath.
These are at least 40 years old, before the internet, bought mail order out of the back of a comic book [most likely].
I should bought 10 of those Surplus Jeeps too....
I pay a lot more for my tools from my vendors, but I can trust them.
I need 10 parts jeeps to support one running one. Or it sure seems that way.
LOL, kinda part of my point...
