My 1st Cousin 3 Times Removed Was Hanged in a Noose
The Daily Signal Newspaper (Middletown, Butler County, Ohio) ^ | May 12, 1899 | Anonymous

I just discovered my first cousin 3 times removed was tragically hanged in a noose in a bizarre accident. This happened in 1899.

What a sad story. I remember as a kid in the 50s watching Saturday Matinee Western movies seeing outlaws get hanged. Kids were always fascinated by nooses. Obviously there were no movies for the little boy to watch and emulate in 1899.

I can't imagine the grief the poor mother must have suffered and the years of "if only we hadn't left that rope there" anguish.

I imagine the President of Nascar shares her feelings with what Nascar has been going through the last few days...

Bubba almost called the cops on his own kids when presented with a new silk tie for Fathers Day already knotted. /s

My mother found me hanging from the blind cords, all blue

Probably why I'm such a warped individual now

From The Real Mother Goose on Project Gutenberg:

THREE CHILDREN ON THE ICE

Three children sliding on the ice
Upon a summer's day,
As it fell out, they all fell in,
The rest they ran away.

Oh, had these children been at school,
Or sliding on dry ground,
Ten thousand pounds to one penny
They had not then been drowned.

Ye parents who have children dear,
And ye, too, who have none,
If you would keep them safe abroad
Pray keep them safe at home.

My only question is...

Read that second line again. (Scratches head.)

Where the hell is there ice thick enough to support people, in mid-summer?

I the 1950s there was a series of similar, but no the same, deadly tragedies. Then, however, the killing instruments were old refrigerators and ice boxes. Kids would climb into them, close the doors and SNAP! the doors’ latches would lock and the the trapped kids would suffocate. That’s why NO refrigerators, freezers, or ice boxes have mechanical latches today; instead all the closures are magnetic. I know this because I was in grade school and high school during the 1950s.

I don’t think your first cousin 3 times removed has been born yet.

Maybe you mean your fourth cousin?

1st, second, third etc. is horizontal.

Removed is vertical.

Thus your first cousin three times removed would be the great-grandchild of your first cousin.

Which is why Corded Roll Up Blind designs have been Regulated since 2018.

According to the chart below below, "removed" can be either an older or younger generation. I did not realize until just now. Both Ancestry and MyHeritage say "1st cousin 3x removed." This little boy is an ancestor (my Gr-Grandfather's wife was the the sister of the little boy’s father).

Yes. It’s a good regulation. But, in this particular case, somebody was negligent to leave an actual noose hanging on the clothesline by the back porch.

Yes, and if you through them out you either had to remove the door, or lock a chain around it. I remember seeing many thrown away in one or the other of those conditions.

Hide & Seek is a very dangerous game, I would never let my kid play that.
