I don’t think your first cousin 3 times removed has been born yet.

Maybe you mean your fourth cousin?

1st, second, third etc. is horizontal.

Removed is vertical.

Thus your first cousin three times removed would be the great-grandchild of your first cousin.

According to the chart below below, "removed" can be either an older or younger generation. I did not realize until just now. Both Ancestry and MyHeritage say "1st cousin 3x removed." This little boy is an ancestor (my Gr-Grandfather's wife was the the sister of the little boy’s father).

What else would you call the old person, then?

If cousin 2x removed is the young part of the relationship, what is the elder part called?

Answer: same thing. Doesn’t matter which gen you discuss.
