Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer Has A $454 Billion Proposal To Encourage America To Go Electric

In a bid to stay slightly more relevant in the midst of rapidly changing times, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer has proposed a $454 billion plan to swap traditional gas-powered cars to electric vehicles, Automotive News reports.

Not all of the $454 billion will go to consumers, though. Schumer’s plan includes billions in incentives for automakers to build or outfit EV factories as well as billions of dollars to improve the EV charging infrastructure.

The 29 percent of greenhouse gas emissions produced by the “transportation sector” does not only cover new cars, though that’s what’s always targetted. It covers cars, trucks, boats and air travel.

And it seems intentional that almost nowhere will break out numbers of cars versus the rest, as shipping and trucking are notoriously dirty. Globally, we know that air travel accounts for 2.5 percent of emissions while the transportation sector emits 15 percent of all carbon, but the EPA doesn’t seem to offer broken out numbers.

To sum up, rather than regulate, these programs tax consumers and use that money to pay manufacturers to develop cars they should be developing already while incentivizing people to destroy perfectly good cars.

Study: ‘Cash for Clunkers’ an even bigger lemon than thought

“Strikingly, we find that Cash for Clunkers actually reduced overall spending on new vehicles,” the researchers reported, noting households “tended to purchase less expensive and smaller vehicles such as the Toyota Corolla, which was the most popular new vehicle purchased under the program.”

They found buyers who participated “spent an average of $4,600 less on a new vehicle than they otherwise would have.”

I’d like to see Chucky and his fellow travelers on the left go electric first, starting with a chair.

They know they can’t compete against the gas-powered cars. Most people can’t afford an electric car, and even many that can can’t afford the $10,000+ battery when it goes kaput.

So they have to create the demand artificially.

Schmucky is so turn-of-the-last-century.

Used to be that there were charging stations all over Manhattan for these cars. How anachronistic.

No way, Chuckie-the cash for clunkers, Solyndra, etc scams have already proved how useless throwing OUR money at renewable energy is-if electric vehicles were the best thing since sliced bread, then there would be a huge profit in producing them-and there isn’t, so STFU...

From a practical perspective-electric vehicles won’t ever be in demand in a rural area like this one-the distances from place to place are too great and many roads are not paved because they are not all that well traveled-a 4x4-either pickup truck or SUV-is needed here and that is how we like it-and there are no charging stations for electric vehicles-if there were they would be at least 10-15 miles apart like the gas stations are now.

Chuck and his cronies never seem to remember that the food everybody in cities eats is grown/raised out here and gets loaded into a gas/diesel powered truck and driven to the big cities-nearest one from here is 50 miles-it isn’t like there are any crops grown or animals raised to feed more than a household or 2 in a city either-most people probably don’t know how to grow food anyway-so I guess if Chuckie and the rest want to have food brought in for them to eat, they’d be better off confining their anti-gas vehicle crap to the big cities...

Of course.

I redid my exhaust system on the Challenger to add 50 HP and it’s LOUD.

I love hearing it when I rev even though i’m 51 :)

They can go to hell if they think i’m giving that up ever.

It’s one of the few things that can actually make me feel like 20 again :)

I grew up in an All Electric home. It had the radiant heat panels on the ceiling, which kept the house very warm, but circulation was a beast of a problem. The windows sweated so bad, they needed thoroughly cleaned tracks and all in the springtime.

I wonder if these dummies really believe in their ludicrous ideas ..or maybe they are just pandering to their extreme base knowing it has no chance

From a congresscritter who couldn’t pass even the most elementary real science course, I don’t think so.

Any of us with a solid science background can give N reasons (where N is a large number) why this is a silly idea. I do feel that in we’ll probably go largely electric for all transpo in the not to far future. But not now. It’ll be an economy breaker (but, then again, Democrats are EXPERTS at fiddling with things they do not understand, and the economy is certainly right up there with science when they choose to demonstrate their complete idiocy).

“... they are just pandering to their extreme base...”

That is a huge part of it...They are looking at the 18-26 year old voters who haven’t lived that much on their own or seen what life is really like...

When chucky starts walking and using ONLY solar/wind to heat/cool his office and house, then we can talk.
