If you remember the days and weeks after 9/11 it was not the navel gazers that the nation turned to. It was the confident, competant and reassuring figure of Donald Rumsfeld. The press ascribed him "rock star" status simply because they did not know better. They had never seen, nor could they comprehend, the qualities that lay behind his popularity. His press conferences were required viewing for a nation wounded and demanding redress.
The collective consciousness is a fickle thing and Mr. Rumsfeld was its hero and then its victim but that is at the extreme. Perculating beneath the surface is a ever growing realization of the nature of the enemy and the type of war we are in. Each new day, each new incident, adds to the maturation and the development of that realization. Consciously or not there is a new leadership generation developing behind the scenes. Many of this generation are in Iraq and Afghanistan but they are also working at Taco Bell and Sears and going to school. They will be there when the times call for them.
U. S. Grant was a failure outside of the military but when the times demanded, he was there. MacArthur was in exile and retirement when the bugles called him to command. Eisenhower would probably have been successful selling insurance in Kansas had not he been required to invade and conquer Europe. The day of the Saxon is not yet over.

I’m really not that afraid of Islam at all. Yes, there are muslims flooding in but I doubt a worldwide caliphate takeover will come from this. People seem to underestimate the secularisation sweeping western islamic communities. A more likely long term scenario is that the kids of the immigrants flooding in become nutbag sjw leftists within a few generations. Which is good and bad news. Radical islam is one problem but leftism is an enabler of many problems.
